Treks and Tails: A Hiking and Traveling Blog. Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Hike #13: Crown Point B-17 Crash Site (Part 1). Alas, another 'unsuccessful' hike! This was my first hike (Sunday, July 20, 2014) in a few weeks after the strenuous process of moving, and unfortunately, we did not reach our destination. The hike itself is about 12 miles round trip. My hiking companion and I followed the trail information that we found online, most of which was inaccurate. We had a beautiful hike, but we did not...The B...

Treks and Tails: A Hiking and Traveling Blog. Sunday, May 31, 2015. Hike #27: Mt. McConnel Trail/Kreutzer Nature Trail. This afternoon we drove up the Poudre Canyon to the Mt. McConnel/Kreutzer Nature Trail hike, one of the only ones I'd never done in the lower Poudre Canyon. There is over 1,000 feet of elevation gain on the hike, which you can definitely feel a little bit more toward the front end of the hike! The hike is only about 4.6 miles roundtrip, perfect for a little Sunday afternoon hike.

Treks and Tails: A Hiking and Traveling Blog. Sunday, October 26, 2014. Hike #23: Crosier Mountain, Glen Haven. This morning Leo and I parked at the Glen Haven Crosier Mountain trail head, and started hiking at about 7:45 am Glen Haven only takes about an hour or less to get to from Fort Collins, and was one of my favorite hiking spots pre-flood (fall of 2013). The views of the snowy Longs Peak and surrounding range were a pretty site to see at the top. For More Trail Information: Crosier Mountain.

Treks and Tails: A Hiking and Traveling Blog. Monday, July 20, 2015. Hike #32: Cirque Meadow and Emmaline Lake (Pingree Park). Another all-day hike up by Pingree Park today! After passing the Tom Bennett campground, be on the lookout for a big brown sign that's blank next to a trailhead post. This is where you'll want to park (odds are, there will be other cars there). If you reach the Lutheran Camp, you've gone too far! I could definitely feel the ascent in the last couple of miles of the hike today!

Treks and Tails: A Hiking and Traveling Blog. Sunday, August 16, 2015. Hike #34: American Lakes and Snow Lake near Cameron Pass, CO. Wow I think this is my new favorite area to hike! I can't recommend this hike enough! It took me about two hours from Fort Collins to get to the trailhead. The trailhead from Crags Campground. The first mile of the hike or so is through a dense forest area. This morning, with last night's rainfall, it almost felt more like the Pacific Northwest while I was hiking! After abo...

Treks and Tails: A Hiking and Traveling Blog. Thursday, July 2, 2015. Hike #30: Lake Jasper, Indian Peaks Wilderness. This morning Leo and I made the rainy, foggy drive up past Boulder, through Nederland to Eldora, to the Hessie trail head. It only takes about an hour and a half to get there from Fort Collins. The trail to Lake Jasper has a decent amount of elevation gain. I would say the trail is a bit strenuous at points. It's also about 10.5 miles roundtrip, so plan on making a day of it! This morning, Leo and I drove a little over an hour south of Fort Collins to Mount Falcon Park, in Morrison, CO. The morning started out a bit chilly and windy, but warmed up as we worked harder going up in altitude! A bonus shot of a Cooper's Hawk! Soundtrack Song of Choice. Treks and Tails: A Hiking and Traveling Blog. Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Trek #24: South Africa. Though this was not quite a hike, it was certainly a trek! Leo was also not on this trip, given the lions and leopards and the like. The day winter break started, I found myself on three flights, bound for Durban, South Africa! The main purpose of the trip was a friend's wedding, but we experienced a lot of other events as well. Then, Shannon's wedding was at Tala Game Reserve, only about 45 minutes outside ...
