Life on the run: My post-abduction diary

Life on the run: My post-abduction diary. Monday, May 9, 2016. It has been several years since my last post here and I am so pleased to be able to report that the unease has greatly eased! My own motherhood and lots of work on healing and moving forward, has brought to a better place. I have matured and grown as a person, and my mother and I have done lots of work separately and together on healing the wounds that kept up bound to the past in stagnation. He asks. "I shouldn't have bothered," he says.

Life on the run: My post-abduction diary: May 2007

http://lifeontherunmypost-abductiondiary.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

Life on the run: My post-abduction diary. Saturday, May 12, 2007. Once, I sold some old coins to make money on the side of our begging. I felt a little better selling something, a bit more honorable. I charged people taxes on what they were buying, and they laughed when I added taxes to the cost. I got very upset at their laughter, and started crying, but I can laugh about it now. It is now a bittersweet memory. Thursday, May 10, 2007. Wednesday, May 9, 2007. No one did anything. NO ONE DID ANYTHING!

Life on the run: My post-abduction diary. Saturday, July 30, 2011. Special Commission of June 2011 on the practical operation of the 1980 Hague Child Abduction Convention and the 1996 Hague Child Protection Convention. Catherine is important to me. As a mother whose children were abducted, she brought the issue to a new light by being so public about her story while in Washington, and she touches many people by telling her story and by her work on the issue. It was heartwarming to me to feel the energy i...

Life on the run: My post-abduction diary: Unease, lack of movement, stagnancy

Life on the run: My post-abduction diary. Thursday, May 31, 2012. Unease, lack of movement, stagnancy. This was written at a time of pain. See my update in the next post. Unease. I felt this as soon as I started to understand what parents want of their children. I had to confront my worst fear, that I would never be good enough the way I was. Because I was abducted, I, through no fault of my own, had formed an identity that was different than it would have been had I grown up with my mother. But the fact...

Life on the run: My post-abduction diary: Media madness, or the challenge of getting ones desired message across

http://lifeontherunmypost-abductiondiary.blogspot.com/2010/01/media-mania.html

Life on the run: My post-abduction diary. Monday, January 11, 2010. Media madness, or the challenge of getting ones desired message across. It all started when I read an article in A magasinet,. But despite this, warning bells went off in my head. Last but not least, my biggest concern is that if this trend continues, where parents feel forced to take matters into their own hands, the government will continue to view parental abduction, especially complex cases of international parental abduction, as "pr...

This is not about mothers vs. fathers rights. Children need BOTH parents in their lives. Check out our Links section for links to other organizations that search for abducted children and provide support for separating parents. Some of us are parents ourselves, and we understand the pain and devastation many of you are going through. Below are a number of articles written for parents in need of inspiration and hope. Be aware of potential negative signals you give out, and try and find the good that exists.

For kids

http://www.thekidslink.org/for-kids

We believe that children need BOTH parents in their lives whenever possible, despite difficult divorces and imperfect parents. Unless something truly awful has happened such as sexual abuse, it is best to be in touch with both parents. After all, they are the only parents each of us have, and losing contact can feel like big loss as kids grow older. The Kids Link is a tool for kids and parents who want to better understand their children s experiences and connect, or stay connected, with their children.

September 9, 2013. Today’s run was EXACTLY what I needed. Having been frustrated with my attempts at running recently, I decided to tag along with Shauna. For the first time in a long time, the miles ticked by quickly an...

Life on the Runn...

Life on the Runn. Taking on the world one day (and one adventure) at a time. Wednesday, August 12, 2015. We closed out our time in Squamish with more of what had become our norm - quiet days working (B), and running and reading (A), and evenings spent climbing or meandering about the town. It was fantastic and neither of us wanted to leave. Luckily, we had a lot planned in the days following our departure from Canada, and we were soon wrapped up in other fun. We stopped here on our way to Seattle. Despit...

As always, some kid pictures to share. This was the best visit with Santa Claus, ever! I thought that Princess, at 2-years old might get upset but she just climbed up and gave him a big hug. The biggest snowfall I can ever remember. We shoveled out a clear tunnel to take the picture. Saturday, October 03, 2009.

Life on the Run

Tuesday, August 2, 2016. Overtraining Syndrome Part III: Lessons Learned. Lesson 1: It’s okay to need (and ask for) help. Lesson 2: Running is a large part of my identity, but it doesn’t define me. Lesson 3: Determination and Perseverance can take you a long way. I struggled with this because when the final results were in, I didn’t feel as though I deserved 2. Lesson 4: “Don’t give up. Keep your pace. You are Strong. You can do this.”. My mantra(s) at mile 22 of the marathon and during difficult workout...
