Association of Lightweight Campers (ALC). History of the ALC. In August 1901 six mobile cycle campers spent a weekend in tents in an orchard at Wantage. They were some of the newly formed Association of Cycle Campers (ACC) started by Thomas Hiram Holding. The ACC grew, attracting pedestrian campers and those traveling by car. In May 2001 the ALC celebrated its centenary by camping close to the original site in Wantage, and were able to the visit the original site which is now part of a private garden.

Association of Lightweight Campers (ALC). 2012 was the most successful Early Birds Meet for many a year! The site was excellent with good facilities and magnificent woods, ponds, and views. The temperature fell to well below zero on both nights so we all woke to a thick frost and clear blue skies. Ice from the fire bucket. There was about an inch of ice on the fire bucket and the drinking water tap froze! We were treated to some beautiful skies - and stars! Cyclists in the field.

If you know of a site near you which you think would be suitable for an ALC meet, do please let the Sites Secretary. Members attending meets will be expected to abide by the rules. And respect the Code for Campers. Remember to bring your membership card. With you, too, as well as cash for your meet fee. Before setting out it is always wise to check the weather forecast!
