The Bell Brothers Made the Ascent of Argus Mountain on Dominion Day. Messrs. Bill and Alec Bell of Courtenay climbed Argus Mountain on Dominion Day. They are the first to make the climb. Mount Bate was named in 1862 by Captain George Henry Richards of the Royal Navy. Richards was at first in-charge of the surveying vessel HMS Plumper. And then the HMS Hecate. Not directly surrounding the sanctuary but guarding the entrance at the mouth of Perry Creek is Malaspina Peak. A Presumed First Ascent' written for the Island Bushwhacker.
