October | 2016 | lit bits and pieces

https://litbitsandpieces.wordpress.com/2016/10

Lit bits and pieces. Snippets of learning and life. The Harry Potter club. October 25, 2016. December 4, 2016. Every semester a new group of them arrives, fresh-faced, wide-eyed, often clutching owls or wands, quivering with excitement and ready to be sorted into one of the four houses … no, they’re not at Hogwarts. These are third, fourth, and fifth grade students who signed up to be in the Harry Potter club at our magnet school. One would have expected students to be drawn most by the magic, the fantas...

Lit bits and pieces. Snippets of learning and life. January 2, 2017. January 3, 2017. Flight Envy. Pretty Parkin. Above the negativity, the naysayers, to make room for the wondrous. Above the noise, to a place of productive peace. Above the superficial, the shallow, to the real, the valuable. Above the fleeting, to the lasting. Above constraints, to the creative. Every day is new. Rise. Reach. Reflect: Rise is a verb. It’s an action, a choice. How might YOU rise and step forward in newness? Lol – I...

Lit bits and pieces. Snippets of learning and life. October 11, 2016. December 4, 2016. Into the ditch. jam343. When I was a child, my neighborhood flooded regularly. Whenever a heavy rain came – and a few times during a moderate rain – the ditch overflowed. Storm drains in the curbs overflowed as well, until water covered the streets and most of the yards. My friends and I had fun wading through it as we walked home from school, sloshing as much as we could. My father, however, was irate every time.

Born musician | lit bits and pieces

Lit bits and pieces. Snippets of learning and life. January 10, 2017. January 10, 2017. Piano and window. Alan Mayers. Years ago, a woman – tired, seven months pregnant – sat in the front row of a church. The morning sun shone through the stained glass windows, casting jewel-tone light on the baby grand piano, a soothing sight to the weary woman whose busy child was churning her insides. The pianist took a seat and began to play the prelude. The baby hears the music. 8220;What are you doing? 8220;When I ...

January 10, 2017. Another slice of life and I am working with the students on their blogs, using word clouds with their OLWs. This is a terrific lesson for synonyms. But with different levels of ability and some tech difficulties, it ended up taking the whole class to implement – and still a couple didn’t finish. March is getting ever closer and I want therm to be ready to blog everyday …. 9 thoughts on “ Kindness Cloud. Just reading this list made me happy. Your kids have chosen great OLWs. Yes, we did ...

Car shopping #sol15 | wahooliteracyteacher

https://wahooliteracyteacher.wordpress.com/2015/08/04/car-shopping-sol15

My Chevy TrailBlazer is twelve years old and has over 210,000 miles on the odometer. It has made trips up and down the East Coast from Pennsylvania to Florida. It has carried me through years of grad classes and conferences and shopping trips. Every day, my TrailBlazer ferries me to and from school, nimbly handling the curvy rural road. It’s been the perfect vehicle for me over the years! Henever I’m out driving, I. This entry was posted in #sol15. August 4, 2015. A Letter to Myself #sol15 →. Notify me o...

Last summer was the first year that I really got involved with #bookaday. I loved reading so many fabulous children’s books and connecting with the other enthusiastic participants. If you’re not familiar with #bookaday, you can check out Donalyn Miller’s blog. I’ve been a little slower with #bookaday this summer, though. While I’ve read some fabulous books (. Rethinking Graphic Organizers for Writing | TWO WRITING TEACHERS

https://twowritingteachers.org/2017/01/09/rethinking-graphic-organizers-for-writing

A meeting place for a world of reflective writers. Rethinking Graphic Organizers for Writing. Monday January 9, 2017. I started writing in my adult life about four years ago. It was a huge awakening for me as a teacher of writing. Oh, how I wish I could go back in time to 2001 to my very first class of sixth graders and have a do-over. I think I might have been a terrible writing teacher that first year. The results of my Google search. The thing about these organizers is that not. Like graphic organizer...

https://twowritingteachers.org/2017/01/06/39378

A meeting place for a world of reflective writers. Deb’s One Little Word For 2017. Friday January 6, 2017. Frankly, this year’s one little word has been a nag. My word snuck up on me in October, and it has not. I seem to find it, or its meaning lurking everywhere I go. Just tonight as I was driving home the car in front of me had this plate, BA GR8R U! Again, there it was, the mantra of my word! The first time my one little word, bombas. I learned about the. You see, many years ago I set out full of ener...

A meeting place for a world of reflective writers. Betsy’s OLW for 2017. Wednesday January 4, 2017. I’ve heard it many times. Life is often divided by its moments. Was that before or after? We try to remember where a lost item might be, or where it may have been. Is that on the shelf…or was it in the cabinet? We look at photos and think, Where is so-and-so? Pace, Silence, Open, Possible. One Little Word (OLW). Beth’s One Little Word for 2017. Dana’s OLW for 2017. Wednesday January 4, 2017 at 8:19 pm.

Chomping on books and spitting out reviews . . . I have a problem. My TBR pile is on the verge of becoming sentient and may or may not have its eye on the small animals that dwell in my home in order to fuel its ever-growing rage. Yet I keep adding to it. It grows stronger every day and yet I just can't stop collecting the pieces in a never-ending attempt to complete its soul. I am currently accepting books for review. Read my policy. Mr Pot Noodle will have the final say. If you say the word intention you are immediately murdered. A typical piece of anthropomorphism. It's one of the pleasures of being a woman. It's nicely balanced with slag and snacks. I'm from the North. I'm allowed to say these things. If you were better-looking you would be more popular. I'll see your poetry and raise you some end-lines. I think Goebbels said a great artist must be a fanatic and a cynic. On the simplest level, adverts are very loud. Football and l...
