Children * Joy * Creativity. Wednesday, February 23, 2011. This week we focused on clay. For their first introduction to clay, the new 1s class began with a soft, grainy clay, a rolling pin and a popsicle stick for poking. At first they really didn't know what to make of it. They were daring and tired to touch it, but quickly moved to the easels where they felt more comfortable. After getting to know the clay (hard work! The children moved on to what they know and love. pure water play! As returning stud...
Littlest Birds Studio: Watercolor & Oil Pastel Batik
http://littlestbirdsstudio.blogspot.com/2011/07/watercolor-oil-pastel-batik.html
Children * Joy * Creativity. Saturday, July 2, 2011. Watercolor and Oil Pastel Batik. After a very brief drawing experience, I offered the kids liquid watercolor to paint onto their work. Even with the light pressure of a toddler, the oil pastel still showed up and resisted the watercolor, creating a batik effect. After trying out the batiks, I finally brought out the ice painting project- offering them colorful oil pastels, watercolor ice paints and paper. A fun day of watercolor experiments!

Littlest Birds Studio: January 2011
http://littlestbirdsstudio.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Children * Joy * Creativity. Wednesday, January 26, 2011. For our third class of the session we focused on clay work. I first offered the children a few tools to roll, poke, or shape the clay. Many of the children have worked with clay here in previous sessions and immediately knew what tools they wanted to use. Soon they were at the shelf retrieving trucks and animals to roll and stomp in the clay. Sometimes it's nice to take a break from working at the table. In one of the 2s classes, the children aske...
