City Guide: Ottawa in the Winter. February 18, 2014. Two tanks of gas for 1000 KM round trip from Toronto to Ottawa and back. Brunch at Jak's Kitchen. Includes a couple of cocktails. Ordered four boxes of pizza, divided among 8 people. Ottawa: Things to Do, Places to Eat. You can ‘t go to Ottawa without having a Beaver Tail. My old childhood friends, who now live in Ottawa, invited us over for lunch and they served this lovely meat pie from a local bakery called Life of Pie. Cute name, eh? A small restau...

the giraffe life: My Maternity Wardrobe
http://thegiraffelife.blogspot.com/2015/08/my-maternity-wardrobe.html
Monday, August 10, 2015. Most of my maternity wardrobe. One thing I've really struggled with this pregnancy is getting dressed! Sounds silly, right? It's tough to find blog posts about how much maternity clothing you'll actually need because it's so personal. What one person considers appropriate work attire or "enough" doesn't always match your situation. So I figured I'd throw my experience out there :). Here's what I've bought and my thoughts! Affiliate - these companies don't even know I exist! 1 pre...

the giraffe life: Gender Predictions from Old Wives' Tales
http://thegiraffelife.blogspot.com/2015/07/gender-predictions-from-old-wives-tales.html
Monday, July 13, 2015. Gender Predictions from Old Wives' Tales. Mr G and I aren't finding out early if our baby is a boy or a girl - we're happy to wait until the baby is born. Of course I've heard a lot of predictions (adamant predictions! So I thought I'd go through some old wives' tales for fun. Nausea = girl, little/no nausea = boy. For me: on/off nausea depending on the day = girl. A chart matching your age and month of conception. Over 140 bpm = girl, under 140 bpm = boy. Monday, July 13, 2015.

the giraffe life: Homemade Vegetarian Hamburger Helper
http://thegiraffelife.blogspot.com/2013/07/homemade-vegetarian-hamburger-helper.html
Monday, July 29, 2013. Homemade Vegetarian Hamburger Helper. When I first moved out on my own, I had plenty of cooking experience with rice, pasta, vegetables, and cookies. But cooking meat? The best I could do was microwave sausage links or heat up chicken nuggets in my toaster oven. I've never liked the look or feel of raw meat (especially anything with a bone or a shell, because it reminded me that whatever I was holding used. To be alive). So I just avoided it. Homemade Vegetarian Hamburger Helper.

https://thezerochallenge.wordpress.com/2013/09/19/the-tomato-sauce-revolution
The zero waste challenge of an everyday couple. 1 year; nothing new, nothing to landfill. Building with zero waste. Gifts and making stuff. The Tomato Sauce Revolution. September 19, 2013. No, they don’t! You need to purchase it in one of the plastic, throw away sauce thingys! Fair enough, but how to go about changing these attitudes? Do you think people are willing to go without having their immediate desires met? What impact does it have on resources to produce these items? Have every single whim met, ...

One woman's journey to gorgeousness, health and organised living. Enough about you, let’s talk about me. Use it up Update 1. Imagine I wrote the first post on Use it Up a month and a half ago and this post came a fortnight after that. I actually started this challenge while on my blogging hiatus.]. Out with the boxes again | lucinda sans
https://lucindasans.wordpress.com/2015/08/14/out-with-the-boxes-again
One woman's journey to gorgeousness, health and organised living. Enough about you, let’s talk about me. Out with the boxes again. Here’s a rule to dispose. Of excess boxes: those that have writing on them get thrown out. This courtesy of another friend on simple living forum. Boxes that indicate what they once held or have a brand name, either on the top, the barcode, the bottom, get thrown it out, no matter how small or inconspicuously it says it…the box goes. Top and base have writing so out with both.
