Liz's Life in Azerbaijan

Liz's Life in Azerbaijan. Sunday, June 23, 2013. I’ve been surprised, and somewhat saddened to find out that most people in Azerbaijan haven’t been able to see some of the beautiful and historic places in their country. I hear the reasons:. I have no time, I have no money, I have no chance. The last rings true for me. When you’re a woman, who is not used to traveling, organizing an expedition to someplace you’ve never been seems impossible. The date was set, and the bus was booked, the plan was made.

Liz's Life in Azerbaijan: August 2012

http://www.lizpeacecorps.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Liz's Life in Azerbaijan. Monday, August 6, 2012. Strange how two words can change a morning. First it was pretty miserable. Woke up way too early with itchy mosquito bites from overnight. Wanted to get started washing. Clothes that I’ve been wearing for two weeks straight. When you do everything by hand, it’s a laborious process, best performed before the heat of the day sets in. I opened and closed the appropriate valves in my water system. and nothing. 8221; I asked. Water, is it coming? Or was it an ...

Liz's Life in Azerbaijan: December 2011

http://www.lizpeacecorps.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Liz's Life in Azerbaijan. Wednesday, December 7, 2011. The Hat Off His Head. Azerbaijanis are know for being hospitable, and extending their generosity to their guests at any expense. This goes way beyond the huge feast that is prepared and served when someone is "guesting." These feasts can make an American Thanksgiving dinner look like a snack. Monday, December 5, 2011. I can't really describe the myriad differences between my life here in Azerbaijan, and life in the U.S., but the simple proces...I put...

Liz's Life in Azerbaijan: February 2012

http://www.lizpeacecorps.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Liz's Life in Azerbaijan. Wednesday, February 22, 2012. Willie Nelson and the Mud. Recently, I had a major reminder of how a day can turn around in a flash. Chalk it up to Willie Nelson and the mud. First, I was really happy with the number of teachers who came to an English teachers club meeting at the college. I suggested it because they told me they were looking for the opportunity to speak English more often. Of course, a couple. Of them came just to check it out. At nearby schools to recruit. Splat,...

Liz's Life in Azerbaijan: Taxi Terror

http://www.lizpeacecorps.blogspot.com/2012/07/taxi-terror.html

Liz's Life in Azerbaijan. Sunday, July 8, 2012. Anyone who has been in Azerbaijan. For more than three days probably has a tale o. F taxi terror to tell. Drivers speed and weave in and out of traffic as if they are the personification of crazed characters on the screen in a video game. After my last ride, I’ve decided no marshrutka is disgusting enough to make me taxi it to Sirvan again. It started when. I got to the Salyan Avtovagsal. In Baku at 7:00 am, after dropping my daughter off at the airport.

CHE STRESS!

Sunday, April 29, 2007. For class on Thursday, we read the introduction and first chapter of “Emergence” by Steven Johnson. Johnson introduces the emergence through the example of slime mold. Slime mold is an organism that usually lives as a single cell, moving about independently of other slime molds. However, when resources in the environment are scarce, all of the cells will self-organize into what looks like one single organism, without the direction of any one cell, or pacemaker. When we checked out...

Liz Pead Studio | keep your stick on the ice, my life in hockey and art

Keep your stick on the ice, my life in hockey and art. Tufting into a woven rug! I was nervous at every step. I made this little sample with 2 ply Lettilopi in the weft on 4/12 linen warp. I experimented with pattern in á not so pretty way :P. But I loved the colour combination. It was about 22″x30″ finished. I have been looking for a better way to adhere the loops into the body of the rug, and I was considering dry felting them. This machine wet felting seems to work better. Got out of the airport and l...
