The Logic of Long Distance: A Bomb Is the Opposite of a Marathon
http://www.logicoflongdistance.com/2013/04/a-bomb-is-opposite-of-marathon.html
The Logic of Long Distance. Connecting running and philosophy. Why Running and Philosophy? Training Log / Contact. Monday, April 15, 2013. A Bomb Is the Opposite of a Marathon. Runners are more than familiar with pain. It's our bread and butter. We love to hurt. We believe in endurance, in suffering, in brutal and soul-withering work. But ours is not a violent sport. In spite of those limits and the pain of life. To endure is to expose ourself to the world, to others, to the ravages of time and effor...
The Logic of Long Distance: The Body as Ethical Compass
http://www.logicoflongdistance.com/2014/12/the-body-as-ethical-compass.html
The Logic of Long Distance. Connecting running and philosophy. Why Running and Philosophy? Training Log / Contact. Wednesday, December 17, 2014. The Body as Ethical Compass. For these things, we need renewal. There are times when I marvel at nature's capacity for renewal: how many barrels of oil could there possibly be? How many cucumbers can this world provide? How is it possible that all the worlds forests have not yet been cut and processed into paper? December 17, 2014 at 4:05 PM. At first I thought,...
The Logic of Long Distance: My Dad -- how I knew him
http://www.logicoflongdistance.com/2015/05/my-dad-how-i-knew-him.html
The Logic of Long Distance. Connecting running and philosophy. Why Running and Philosophy? Training Log / Contact. Saturday, May 30, 2015. My Dad - how I knew him. Dad loved the Tennessee River Gorge. When I think about who he is, that's the first thing I think of - a sort of unsettled, straining, and restless energy that was the quality of his soul. My Dad was a little bit crazy and very much alive. May 30, 2015 at 8:41 AM. Im sorry for your loss, Jeff. Thats a nicely written tribute to your Dad. May 30...

The Logic of Long Distance: On the Smallness of Running
http://www.logicoflongdistance.com/2015/08/on-smallness-of-running.html
The Logic of Long Distance. Connecting running and philosophy. Why Running and Philosophy? Training Log / Contact. Monday, August 3, 2015. On the Smallness of Running. William James, in a letter to a friend. The smallness of running:. The strike of the foot. The curve of the path. The step out of bed. The moment of decision. The breeze in an ear. The flight of the mind. The return to weakness. And so on, so long as we run. It's for these reasons that I drone on about running as an antidote to wisdom ill-...

The Headbanging Harrier: August 2014
http://xcgeorge.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
50 State Marathon Challenge. In Memory of Steve Rettke. Friday, August 22, 2014. Maybe I'll remember my next thirty years. A lot has happened since my last update. I turned 30, ran a mediocre Boilermaker, went on a cruise to Alaska with Ashlie's and my parents, and ran a decent Bergen 5K. Let's go through them in order. Once that drama was over with, Ashlie and I ran the Utica Boilermaker. The week after we came back was the long-time favorite Bergen 5K. For updates on that front! Im goofy, I like to run...

50 State Marathon Challenge. In Memory of Steve Rettke. Sunday, June 22, 2014. Five Things Only People Who Love Camping Will Understand. A few days ago, this Buzzfeed article. Entitled "18 Things Only People Who Hate Camping Will Understand" started making its way around Facebook and other social media sites. My news feed was inundated with dozens of people sharing this article, usually with some comment along the lines of "eew nature yuck! Obviously, these folks are what could be described as " indoorsy.
The Headbanging Harrier: I'm back in the saddle... I think.
http://xcgeorge.blogspot.com/2015/04/im-back-in-saddle-i-think.html
50 State Marathon Challenge. In Memory of Steve Rettke. Sunday, April 5, 2015. I'm back in the saddle. I think. Of course my plan to run some track 5000m races in April and break 16 minutes is shot all to hell, so what are my plans now? That is a good question. I think I should be in decent shape for the Lilac 10K. On May 17th and the Buffalo Half Marathon. In June and then my favorite race in the world, the Utica Boilermaker 15K. After that, who knows? Crazy thoughts of m7/d v1.0. Monday, August 01, 2011. After taking the past 2 days off, I decided to turn today's rest day into an easy day with some speed thrown in. Jog to the gardens. 3 small loops - easy-fast-easy. 5 small loops lilly pond - fartlek. 8 short hill strides/sprints. Shoes: Nike Zoom Speed Lite ST. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
crazy thoughts of m7/d v1.0: Make Hay While the Sun Shines...

Crazy thoughts of m7/d v1.0. Thursday, August 04, 2011. Make Hay While the Sun Shines. Or rather run while the sun ain't shining that brightly. The decent rainfall yesterday night did help after all. Today's weather wasn't that hazy and got less so when it was time to run. In any case, I left the house a bit earlier than normal in a bid to get in some extra strength work. That plan wasn't entirely successful. Hilly medium long run - Botanical Gardens. 10x big loops - 1.35.41. Shoes: Brooks Green Silence.
crazy thoughts of m7/d v1.0: February 2009
http://runningspree.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Crazy thoughts of m7/d v1.0. Sunday, February 08, 2009. With the conclusion of the past weekend, I will only have less than 4 weeks time left until my first competition of the year, which is the MASUM championships. What's so special about this competition besides it being the first of the year? P/S While I already had a full semester of lifesaving lessons before me and am doing the second level already, lifesaving classes still hurt like a bitch. Links to this post. The absolute joy of self propulsion .....: September 2012
http://legsformiles.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
The absolute joy of self propulsion . Monday, September 10, 2012. Army Half Marathon 2012: Race Review. I ran the AHM in 1:57:12. Its definitely not the time i was shooting for (which was 1:50-1:52) and i am actually ruing the lost opportunity because the weather was really outstanding. Yet, i dont feel too bad about the outcome for a few reasons and am motivated to improve upon this significantly in the days to come. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The absolute joy of self propulsion .....: January 2013
http://legsformiles.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
The absolute joy of self propulsion . Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Well Yesterday was New Year and today, January is nearly gone. Atleast thats what it feels like to me - this month has just gone whizzing by. And I sure do hope that the start i have had for 2013 is a sign of things to come for the rest of the year. Just remembered . on one of those rare occasions that i was running on a treadmill, last Monday, in a hotel in Osaka, i crossed 5000 kms in career mileage . yippeee! Links to this post. 2 Run va...
The absolute joy of self propulsion .....: February 2011
http://legsformiles.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
The absolute joy of self propulsion . Saturday, February 12, 2011. From how the run shaped up, to how it finally played out, i am really pleased with this. 2011 has been off to a better start than 2010 and i only hope that this continues for the rest of the year. I think i have a legitimate hope now for running a 4:40-4:45ish at Tokyo - whether or not that happens is a different proposition altogether. Links to this post. Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Another Runner: Races
http://www.anotherfnrunner.com/p/races.html
Shoe Reviews, etc. I'd originally conceived of this blog in order to keep track of my thoughts on the races I ran. Obviously, that concept developed into something a little larger, thereby mixing race reports with other thoughts on running. So, in order to keep things simple, this page serves as an index of my race history, which began in the Spring of 2010. Naturally, the links lead you to the relevant race report. 11/17/2012 : Raven Rock Rumble 10-Mile Trail Run : 1:17:28. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The Logic of Losing
The Logic of Losing. Sunday, April 3, 2011. Where my exercise is at! Just a quick note to say I am still here and going strong. Work has been extremely busy the first quarter and I have been using free time for playing and relaxing as much as possible. This weekend I just finished up a set of parallettes to incorporate more gymnastic type work. I find it very challenging. The last bit I am considering acquiring is a punching bag - I think I would enjoy it and the kids are asking about one as well. 90s Cr...
