Coq au Vin. (Huku ne doro) | Food Riot
https://foodriot.wordpress.com/2010/09/29/coq-au-vin-huku-ne-doro
A blog that has much to do with food and cooking. Coq au Vin. (Huku ne doro). Coq au Vin. (Huku ne doro). September 29, 2010. It is a long time since I have written anything here. I ran out of words after being advised by someone beloved and very important to me to maybe try my hand at writing. So I have been sulking. I think I might have finished now, so I’ll see if I can still write and will try my hand at it. After taking these ingredients for a well deserved beer. Apperatif at The Regent. 8211; I can...

Ostrea Edulis: Fish and Chips
http://patrickcarpenter.blogspot.com/2010/04/fish-and-chips.html
Thursday, 15 April 2010. It was the 150th birthday of fish and chips. The other day and I was in Aldeburgh. On the North Sea coast. And decided to mark the occasion with the bag of "rock 'n' chips" shown above. As an insititution, fish and chips was voted in a recent poll as Britain's most loved (knocking the Queen into second place). Selling (cold) fried fish in the street as a precursor. There was also a tradition of potatoes as street food but these were baked and not fried. Is more common than cod.

Ostrea Edulis: February 2012
http://patrickcarpenter.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, 26 February 2012. Fast food at 200mph. The other day I made a lightning visit to London on Eurostar. For an urgent errand and travelled first class (or Business Premier. To get on the next available train. The return cost was 620€ and so I was expecting something ritzy onboard. But a glance at the menu cover suggested we would get The Waterside Inn (3 Michelin stars) rather than the mere Ritz. Whilst it's difficult on a plane to serve decent food, on a train there are fewer constraints. As on the...

Feeding the Frozen Few: Penne a’ la Arctic | Food Riot

A blog that has much to do with food and cooking. Feeding the Frozen Few: Penne a’ la Arctic. Feeding the Frozen Few: Penne a’ la Arctic. January 9, 2010. A lovely crunchy cheesy topping blankets this delicious, unctuous winter pasta meal. Because of the snow. Have eaten all the rock salt, this situation seems likely to continue. Because that’s what was in the cupboard. Penne pasta (or macaroni or whatever short pasta you have available). 2 chopped spring onions. A cupful of frozen peas. Mix with the but...

Tuscan Pasta Salad | Food Riot
https://foodriot.wordpress.com/2011/08/22/tuscan-pasta-salad
A blog that has much to do with food and cooking. August 22, 2011. Tuscan Pasta Salad 2011 Paul Davey. I have recently been doing some design work for a small but perfectly formed client who has a rather splendid café in Victoria (I will put a link to his website when I have finished building it. Nag me! Then came the photography and I decided to invent the Tuscan Pasta salad for real. It is dead simple to make, healthy and delicious. And Tuscan. Which sounds Italian because it is. A sprig of rosemary.

Ostrea Edulis: June 2010
http://patrickcarpenter.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, 13 June 2010. Canteen Fish and Chips. I was invited recently to try fish and chips at Canteen. In Baker Street. As readers will know, I am a sucker for takeaway fish and chips. When in Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast. But in London, since the demise of the wonderful Upper Street Fish Bar. Includes fish finger sandwiches and Twiglets. Our group of bloggers were at the Baker Street branch to try out the fish and chips and to hear group executive chef and co-founder Cass Titcombe. Cass explained that...

Ostrea Edulis: Vignettes from Jerez: The (mainly) fish market
http://patrickcarpenter.blogspot.com/2010/05/vignettes-from-jerez-mainly-fish-market.html
Monday, 31 May 2010. Vignettes from Jerez: The (mainly) fish market. What a shame that on an island like Britain most towns do not possess one single fishmonger (let alone a proper food market) and that the supermarkets where most food is bought anyway provide a pathetically small choice of fish, most of it ready filleted or smoked or 'previously frozen'. 1 June 2010 at 03:37. Those peppers look amazing. 1 June 2010 at 08:25. Nice peppers, yes Mat, but what about the fish? 1 June 2010 at 13:41. I grew up...

Ostrea Edulis: December 2009
http://patrickcarpenter.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 29 December 2009. Lemon Posset and Ginger Shortbread. Two really easy peasy recipes from Richard Corrigan's great book, The Clatter of Forks and Spoons. If you must drink wine with pudding then a sweet German or Austrian Riesling should cope with the lemon tartness. Sauternes would match the richness. Tokaji Aszu from Hungary is an oft overlooked wine with plenty of character and the sweetness (and acidity) to cope with many challenging puddings including this one. The Clatter of Forks and Spoons.
