A Long Walk to Green: May 10, 2009
http://longwalktogreen.blogspot.com/2009_05_10_archive.html
A Long Walk to Green. The journal of a modern day family moving toward responsible sustainable living. Sunday, May 10, 2009. Successful Bike Move, thanks to many! We've spent the last two weeks simultaneously remodeling the house we just bought and moving a bit everyday and capping it all off with a large group move yesterday. It was a bit odd to have the local paper for our town of 80k people, show up, interview us and many others, photograph the whole shebang and post it as a front page story.

A Long Walk to Green. The journal of a modern day family moving toward responsible sustainable living. Monday, February 22, 2010. Winter Garden Follow up Post. As expected, the Miner's lettuce was the most cold tolerant. It lost no leaves and indeed showed no evidence of damage! It was also very delicious and is still making great salads! I have also figured out what happened to my spinach. The slugs! They eat it as soon as it sprouts! 2 Create new insulated cold frames (perhaps wood lined with foam so w...

A Long Walk to Green. The journal of a modern day family moving toward responsible sustainable living. Thursday, April 16, 2009. Photo courtesy of www.streetfilms.org. Well its looking like we're actually going to close on that house, only 2 months later than we initially planned. I guess the news was accurate in stating that the pendulum had gone the other way and that banks are slow and SUPER cautious about lending money. Anyway, on to the point, at this point we're leaning strongly towards a bike move.

A Long Walk to Green. The journal of a modern day family moving toward responsible sustainable living. Sunday, November 15, 2009. Two Successful Experiments, Two Planned Experiments. The garden took off and we are still eating ripe tomatoes in November! The best part, I found was that I had no digging, no heavy garden work and almost no weeds. I may plant tomato bushes late in the season again just so I can enjoy them next fall. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Some of our regular reads.

A Long Walk to Green. The journal of a modern day family moving toward responsible sustainable living. Saturday, March 28, 2009. A Chariot For All Seasons. We had all the necessary materials laying around and even if we hadn't, the materials were not too bad. :). We've used this set-up all winter in Colorado. The coldest rides were about 4 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods of time (1.5 hrs ) and the kids are so warm, they are taking off their mittens! Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Our Garden: Ouch!
http://maddannie.blogspot.com/2013/05/ouch.html
Friday, May 31, 2013. So I lost track of blogging once again, but with good reason, and I am back at it now. My neck is recovering a lot faster than we thought and I'm able to pick up Rue. Elsie is a bit tricky, due her size and tendency to thrash around wildly. We snuggle on the sofa now. Before all this neck stuff I had some posts to put up. My favorite being our trip to the Sculpture park. Standing in my favorite sculpture from when I was little, someone put a heart in the middle. A long walk to green.
Our Garden: October 2011
http://maddannie.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 28, 2011. This is my tallow rendering set up in the backyard. While Texas is sweating it out with the cardinals on TV I figured I could get a few things done. So I'm rendering Tallow and hulling the black walnuts our incredibly awesome mailman/neighbor brought over. He is the coolest mailman I have ever met, and I look forward to when he gets his first baby chicks for his yard. My Walnut hulling set up. Links to this post. Tuesday, October 25, 2011. Kristin Collier's Musings: May 2011
http://kristincollier.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
A stab at partnership with earth, light, and love. Monday, May 30, 2011. Forgive me, God/Goddess, for I have sinned. I have stood before the altar of the Great God Pepsi, and I have typed in my email and password more than twenty times this month. I have heard the crackling pop sound effect that resonates from behind my keyboard and the luscious bubbling music of cold soda trickling into a glass. I have sinned in my mind about drinking it. All in the name of education. My kitchen is not the only one litt...

A stab at partnership with earth, light, and love. Tuesday, June 5, 2012. I want to buy those handcuffs, Mom," he tells me. "I know that you don't agree with that because they're cheap and you think I won't like them for more than a day, but.". But you don't care about that, you just want them anyway? I just want them anyway," he smiles, relieved. "It's my money after all.". It is," I say. "And even if I don't like your choice, I can reserve all further comment.". I'm not tall enough.". I situate the gal...

Notes from the Treehouse: September 2008
http://siridogstreehouse.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Notes from the Treehouse. Saturday, September 27, 2008. It’s been a productive week for freelancing. A sizeable yearly project to which I’m committed has rolled around again, and I’ve been hacking away at it during the girls’ downtime - admittedly, a rare occurrence at 20 months. The site was supposedly grandfathered as industrial because it housed a cement plant as recently as 20 years ago, but the neighborhood has evolved in the decades since that plant closed. Glad to have contacts for all these respo...

Notes from the Treehouse. Tuesday, May 12, 2009. You think this cup-o-noodles is still good? I brought home a bucket of praying mantises from work - they hatched," Chris tells me over dinner last night. "Once they hatch, they start eating each other, so right now it's like insect thunderdome in the car console.". About a month ago, we let loose a fleet of ladybugs in the gardens and trees. The mantises are our second wave of natural pest deterrence. After breakfast and coffee, the girls and I headed out ...

Notes from the Treehouse. Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Chris and I are learning how to make cheese. We've started with soft cheeses - mozzarella, ricotta, panir - hoping to work our way up to the hard ones with wax shells, colorful aging patterns and healthy aromas. For supplies and recipes, go to New England Cheesemaking Supply Company. I keep meaning to pick up some white vinegar to make paneer. I've made yogurt cheese - that's pretty easy :) I actually have a recipe book by Stonyfield Farms that's...

Notes from the Treehouse: April 2011
http://siridogstreehouse.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Notes from the Treehouse. Thursday, April 14, 2011. This is something I wrote in September as the reality of losing our lives in North Carolina began to balloon. I walk the quiet hallway, surrounded by freshly painted off-white walls and bright white trim. Chuckle because Chris can’t help but be tickled every time we use that word: trim. Our life is transitory. No job or freshly-cut keys await us at the end of the caravan. – Just a maybe, a small confidence. This is my eulogy to Wilmington, to the life w...

Long Walk to Family
Long Walk to Family. A journey of two best friends and their silly little dog to build their family, however it may happen. Thursday, April 15, 2010. Can we talk about this Russian situation for a minute? I know I owe you all a lot of updates about my own little one situation, but I have to post about t his topic. This is so heartbreaking and so awful. Every time I hear about adoptive parents rejecting their children I lose a little more faith in people. This story. Really takes the cake, though. Why did...

A Long Walk to Green
A Long Walk to Green. The journal of a modern day family moving toward responsible sustainable living. Monday, July 26, 2010. Teaching Children to Commute. Samuel learned to ride his bike about a year ago! He was not even 4 yrs old. We were so proud! It was sooo cute watching a tiny little kid on a tiny little bike ride around with no training wheels or anything. Samuel loved the independence and the feeling of being "big". This practice is producing wonderful fruit! Links to this post. Links to this post.

Long Walk to the Truth
Long Walk to the Truth. Friday, October 25, 2013. Book 1:10 Marrakesh 1. Marrakesh, City of my Dream. This was more like it! I felt a rush of affinity with the place, almost a déjà vu. Not quite a homecoming, but a sense of having arrived on the threshold of some old familiar dream of another world, ancient, beckoning, ripe with memories promising. Wonder and delight. A gladdening warmth radiated from deep within and I became one huge smile. Eyes popping and all-a ’fizz. A few obvious tourists with camer...

Walking 100miles Non Stop along the South Downs Way. 10 Mile round trip to the yard and back. So I braved it today and walked the 10 mile round trip to the yard and back. Was lovely weather – although a little windy and could have been more sun. But the rain managed to keep away. So the 5 miles to the yard took me an hour and a half. A few pics below. As we’ve all been paid this week please please please can you spare a pound or few for my just giving page? More pictures in my facebook album here. Sorry ...
