wood duck kayak
Monday, August 30, 2010. Time to build another kayak. Well the Wood Duck is finished and we use it allot. It was my first kayak build and I learned allot about both building and kayaking. I made some big blunders during the building process but that's all what learning is about. It's time to use what I have learned to advance to the next level. A full cedar strip sea kayak. Tuesday, August 2, 2011. Our new Guillemot on Lake Michigan. We stayed at Northport. At the very tip of the Leelanau. Peninsula. Grand Traverse Bay. Lake Michigan, un. Salted . No sharks or jelly fish. Nothing that will eat you. The water is so clear, you can see the bottom at 30 or 40 feet deep. The cockpit is way to small for me, but it is just right for Donna. Monday, May 25, 2015. My Petrel took the award for BEST KAYAK at Okoumefest 2015. The Tri County Times did a story about my kayaks. Sunday, May 10, 2015. I got a chance in between thunder showers to take the Petrel out on its maiden voyage. I had a little trouble squeezing my big white royal Arabian butt into the 17 inch wide cockpit. Thursday, November 24, 2011. Gluing the Mahogany strips. Not as easy as Cedar but still not very difficult. Tuesday, November 8, 2011. The Transom is finished and ready to install onto the forms. It does not seem very heavy at all but I know that it weighs more than Okoume plywood. The first strip is clamped to each form and then glued to the transom and the Bow.
