Luca Assante was born on June 20, 2007 in Annapolis, Maryland to Vincenzo and Lucia Assante. In April of 2009, Luca was diagnosed with rabdomysarcoma, a very rare form of cancer. Love for Luca is an organization developed in honor of Luca Assante, a remarkable six-year-old Annapolis, Maryland native who lost his battle to cancer on November 6, 2013. Luca battled, throughout his short life, both rabdomysarcoma and leukemia. The mission of Love for Luca is to raise money for the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center Musculoskeletal Tumor Research Program in memory of Luca's bold and vibrant spirit. Each day is a gift. Lisa Hartman. October 17, 2010. I met Paul Cohen at the first Sarcoma Event planning meeting. He too had a sarcoma in his leg. Unfortunately, he lost his leg. However, he gets around very well on his prosthesis. I ‘admire’ his beautiful leg! He will soon be a “demo dummy” (as he puts it) for kids trying to make a prosthesis like his with LEGO’s.
