I have often been asked over the years where I bought a particular dress, coat or pair of trousers. At one time it wasn’t “cool” to own second hand clothes so I would go red in the face and say I could not remember! Thankfully those days are no more and you are now no one unless you own at least a couple of vintage pieces (I need them even more now my 20 year old daughter keeps pinching them! My name is Christine Buckley and I am a clothes-a-holic. I can’t help it I have been into clothes for as long as I can remember. When I was seven years old I was given a dress that swung from the hip when I walked. I loved it so much I would hold it up at night wondering what gave this dress its magical swaying properties. Comparing it to the one other dress I possessed I worked out that the layer of material from the hip on the dress was cut into a full open circle and attached to the bodice. Ahhh!

My customised pieces come about when I come across an item of clothing that I know just doesn’t ‘work’ but love the material or colour of the item. These are truly one-offs you will never see two of these pieces. The garment may even start life as a bustier or top, waiting in my sewing room for months, waiting for inspiration to strike when it can finally “go to the ball” as fully fledged genuine one-off dress!
