JAG in the Box: And the time has finally come...
http://jag-in-the-box.blogspot.com/2009/05/and-time-has-finally-come.html
JAG in the Box. A blog of my journey to Iraq and back. And the time has finally come. At long last, the training and planning and the thumb-twiddling appears to be over. Within the next few days, we'll finally be in Iraq. I'm not exactly dying to be in a place where hundreds and hundreds of people want me dead, but I'm sure ready to get this show on the road. God bless those guys who eat those things for days on end. I knew there was a reason I never joined the Army. On 12:55 PM under Reflections. Mike v...

JAG in the Box: Sandfog
http://jag-in-the-box.blogspot.com/2009/04/sandfog.html
JAG in the Box. A blog of my journey to Iraq and back. Wow This place is sandy! This morning I awoke to thunder. Loud, close, rolling thunder. I expected to go outside to find a monsoon, but was greeted by only a few drops here and there. I didn't get up in time to see the lightning, but people tell me it was amazing. In fact, I'm sitting at my laptop in the middle of a Starbucks right now. They do a good job of making you feel comfortable. We're not expecting the same in Iraq, needless to say, b...This ...

JAG in the Box: I'm fine. Really.
http://jag-in-the-box.blogspot.com/2009/06/im-fine-really.html
JAG in the Box. A blog of my journey to Iraq and back. I'm fine. Really. In light of some recent posting by others. Frustrated scowl*], I find it necessary to describe my life here in the IZ in a little more detail, emphasizing exactly how comfortable we really are. Yes, we are in a war zone, and yes, there are constant reminders of that fact (many less subtle than others), but in large part, I have a good life. We have a pretty good-sized MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) facility, complete with lot...

JAG in the Box: A Slow Train To...
http://jag-in-the-box.blogspot.com/2009/04/slow-train-to.html
JAG in the Box. A blog of my journey to Iraq and back. A Slow Train To. As is typical for me, my blogging has been terrible of late. Some of it is laziness, but most of it is the abysmally slow internet connection here in the barracks. I guess that happens when 60 guys are trying to download tv shows all at the same time. I'll post again when I can, and I'll get more pictures up as soon as I have an internet connection that's faster than dialup. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Mike v. Mesopotamia.

JAG in the Box: I [HEART] Route Irish
http://jag-in-the-box.blogspot.com/2009/05/i-heart-route-irish.html
JAG in the Box. A blog of my journey to Iraq and back. I [HEART] Route Irish. Is the name that's been affectionately given to the thoroughfare between the Baghdad International Airport / Camp Victory complex and the International Zone (formerly the "Green Zone") in downtown Baghdad. It was once one of the most dangerous roads in the world, and while it's improved, it's still not exactly like a Sunday morning drive to big church. For example, one doesn't typically ride in vehicles call " Rhinos. We stayed...

JAG in the Box: Day Zero
http://jag-in-the-box.blogspot.com/2009/04/day-zero.html
JAG in the Box. A blog of my journey to Iraq and back. Today is the day. Departure day. "Day Zero" on the count toward coming home. I've never been more ready for "Day One.". We woke up promptly this morning at 0700 as directed, then went about the business of waiting for our 1730 flight. You stay classy, Army. In fact, some guy just walked over and randomly took a mug shot of me and tells me that it will be available to view here. This comment has been removed by the author. God Speed, Phil. For those w...

JAG in the Box: 1-2-2
http://jag-in-the-box.blogspot.com/2009/08/4-1-1-on-1-2-2.html
JAG in the Box. A blog of my journey to Iraq and back. If you're wondering what's going on in my neck of the woods, then the answer is easy enough: work. It consumes me. I like my job here, but it doesn't leave much time to do anything else. And when it does, "update the blog" isn't always at the top of the list. But guilt is pretty compelling, so here we are. My last post dealt with all the conveniences and niceties of life he. All of us deal with the stairs differently. One person takes out his fru...
