L & T: the birth story (nothing like the birth plan) part 1

http://www.lukeandtab.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-birth-story-nothing-like-birth-plan.html

The Life and Times of Luke &Tab. Thursday, July 16, 2015. The birth story (nothing like the birth plan) part 1. J is now three months old, and she will finally. Take more than five minute nap without being held. So, now that I have two hands free for a moment, I'll catch you guys up on how she arrived.it was certainly not how we expected! Waiting for the heart cath. I took a few deep breaths and re-checked it- 146/98. I tried to convince myself that it wasn't that high (even though my blood pressure ...

L & T: Big Trouble

http://www.lukeandtab.blogspot.com/2013/04/big-trouble.html

The Life and Times of Luke &Tab. Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Thinking he most likely had a bowel injury, we took him to the OR to explore his abdomen.and found blood. A lot of blood in the belly.and a large, dark retroperitoneal hematoma behind the right colon going up to the liver and down into the pelvis. The boy recovered quickly and was up and walking and eating within a few days. April 26, 2013 at 5:28 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Daily Living in West Africa. Birth story- part 2. The Life and Times of Luke &Tab. Thursday, January 9, 2014. Eat real blue cheese (the stuff here isn't the same at all.its gooey not crumbly and tastes odd). Have Red Robin Blue Ribbon Burger with bottomless fries and ranch dressing. Play pinochle [with my family]. Shop at Trader Joe's and Target. Peruse the magazines at Barnes and Noble while drinking a holiday flavored coffee drink. Watch a football game in the daytime. Go to a Mexican restaurant at eat queso, guacamole, enchiladas, and tacos. The view...

it's no grey's anatomy: you should read this book

http://sarahsurgeon.blogspot.com/2014/01/you-should-read-this-book.html

It's no grey's anatomy. I am a general surgeon, and i have a fabulous life, but it is nothing like the tv show. 5 years in residency behind me. You should read this book. Go buy it (preferably at your local book store, but it is also available here. You forgot to warm people to buy multiple boxes of Kleenex before starting it. Lovely book, but I bawled. January 29, 2014 at 9:27 PM. Totally agree- tissues mandatory. January 29, 2014 at 9:57 PM. Yes, this book is a MUST read! January 29, 2014 at 11:30 PM.

It's no grey's anatomy. I am a general surgeon, and i have a fabulous life, but it is nothing like the tv show. 5 years in residency behind me. Its on my friends. the 24 hour countdown has begun. 5 long, hard, draining years of learning to become an independent surgeon are going to be behind me in 24 short hours. i owe so much to the surgeons who have gotten me to where i stand today. i am a confident, strong young surgeon, eager to head out on my own and make people's lives better through surgery. it's no grey's anatomy: fixer of social woes

http://sarahsurgeon.blogspot.com/2014/02/fixer-of-social-woes.html

It's no grey's anatomy. I am a general surgeon, and i have a fabulous life, but it is nothing like the tv show. 5 years in residency behind me. Fixer of social woes. I am constantly amazed at how much of my job is non-medical and is really that of a social worker. Too bad I don't have any formal training in that arena. This is most glaringly obvious in my world when dealing with trauma patients or those who enter my world through the emergency room. Today I was 70% social worker, 30% surgeon. A CUP OF JO.

The Snells: The Countdown

And a special treat: my amazing co-blogger and husband will be making an appearance. Stephen here.) We will be serving the people of northwest Zambia at Mukinge Hospital near the town of Kasempa. Now back to Amy! So, there you have it. We are moving to Africa in 10 days. Please keep us in your prayers. January 2, 2013 at 10:39 PM.

it's no grey's anatomy: November 2013

http://sarahsurgeon.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

It's no grey's anatomy. I am a general surgeon, and i have a fabulous life, but it is nothing like the tv show. 5 years in residency behind me. Cold, freezing rain and annoyances. I'm ending birthday week on a sour note today. So I called the first tow company that I found searching on my phone, no answer. Then the second, which told me it would be a three hour wait! A frustrating (and cold) 30 minutes later we found a company to tow the car, and a garage that would look at it before Tuesday. No, there i...

Joy: The quiet, confident assurance of God's love and work in your life. Wednesday, January 31, 2007. Come, ye weary, heavy laden,. Bruised and broken by the fall;. If you tarry 'til you're better,. You will never come at all. Not the righteous, not the righteous;. Sinners Jesus came to call. Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched,. Weak and wounded, sick and sore;. Jesus, ready, stands to save you,. Full of pity, joined with power. He is able, He is able;. He is willing; doubt no more. Gonna live it up!

it's no grey's anatomy: and not a very good fixer at that

http://sarahsurgeon.blogspot.com/2014/02/and-not-veey-good-fixer-at-that.html

It's no grey's anatomy. I am a general surgeon, and i have a fabulous life, but it is nothing like the tv show. 5 years in residency behind me. And not a very good fixer at that. Just a quick update to my post about being 70% social worker. Four hours after discharge the patient came back in. She just didn't feel like she could handle being at home. We ended up admitting here, because, well, what else could we do? She coincidentally had "lost" all her pain pills! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Hannatu's Happenings: February 2015

http://hannatu.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy, at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11. Sunday, February 22, 2015. Giving Thanks for All Things. But awakening to joy awakens to pain. Joy and pain, they are two arteries of the one heart that pumps through all those who don't numb themselves to really living. Yet I know it in the vein and the visceral: life is loss. Ann Voskamp in One Thousand Gifts. We dealt with a host of subjects including handling conflict, st...

You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy, at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11. Monday, June 16, 2014. In June Sahel Academy closes for the academic year and many of our personnel leave. Either their short term is completed, they go on home assignment, or they leave for good for a number of reasons. Then in July and August we get a large influx of personnel.some are new and others are returning from their home assignment. He needs to check the roof and s...

La Bella Vita del Bostics

La Bella Vita del Bostics. Monday, February 9, 2015. More Adventures in Milan 12.1.11 ; 12.3.11. Despite all of our traveling, we did stick around Milan occasionally to enjoy what the city had to offer. In the month of December, this included some of our favorite things: basketball and tequila. The game itself, of which we have approximately two pictures, was good. It wasn't exactly what we were used to watching back home, but it was fun to watch a live game and cheer on the 'home team' with the crowd.

8230;and don't forget Cowboy! A Puppy With a Broken Heart. December 30, 2011. After we met Darby earlier this month we haven’t been able to get her out of our minds. This beautiful girl needs a forever home that can show her the love she deserves. Unfortunately, with an already full house we can’t adopt her. But we decided to cover the cost of her medicine for a month. It was the least we could do for the impact she left on our hearts. When Darby first arrived at the Cape Ann Animal Shelter. Darby’...

The Nelsons

Saturday, September 22, 2012. We hear rumors and then it's confirmed. The UTMB race will be held only in France. No longer is it a 100 mile race, but a 110K. Snow and blizzard like conditions on mountain passes. Luke has a race report on his Blog here. The race start began at 7:00 PM. It was a night race, in the rain and snow. LUke, Krissy, and Topher. Blurry sorry. THe crazy Race Starting Line. We timed the racers and it took over 10 min for all 2300 racers to run past us, crazy! Again huge and crazy.
