Go buy it (preferably at your local book store, but it is also available here. You forgot to warm people to buy multiple boxes of Kleenex before starting it. Lovely book, but I bawled. It's no grey's anatomy. I am a general surgeon, and i have a fabulous life, but it is nothing like the tv show. 5 years in residency behind me. Fixer of social woes. I am constantly amazed at how much of my job is non-medical and is really that of a social worker. Too bad I don't have any formal training in that arena. This is most glaringly obvious in my world when dealing with trauma patients or those who enter my world through the emergency room. Today I was 70% social worker, 30% surgeon. A CUP OF JO.

Just a quick update to my post about being 70% social worker. Four hours after discharge the patient came back in. She just didn't feel like she could handle being at home.
