Theology on Tap: December 2013
http://lutherspub.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Immanuel: God with Us. Reformed theologian, Michael Horton, has said that second to the incarnation itself the most miraculous thing about Jesus’ birth was that no one died. That sounds quite dramatic. What does he mean? When father Adam and mother Eve were brusquely expelled from Paradise, at the garden gate God posted the cherubim guard, fearfully illuminated in a night of dark trees by the red-orange glow of a flaming sword. That is true of God. The kind of presence of mind...

Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Why I Find Christianity the Most Reasonable Explanation of Our World. You’ve probably heard of the so-called “classical proofs” for God’s existence. Strictly speaking, there is no logical proof that God exists – anymore than there’s logical proof that other people exist. These arguments are psychologically rather than logically compelling (though they are not for this reason illogical. Here are a few I find compelling and why:. And science cannot answer these questions, becaus...

Saturday, July 14, 2012. Was Christ forsaken by God at the cross? In short, yes. In a recent article for Christianity Today. Al Hsu provocatively argues to the contrary (see Daniel Wallace's response here. Jesus wasn’t actually abandoned, he asserts, but rather only seemed abandoned, and His infamous “cry of dereliction” was simply a "this is that" identification of the messianic sufferings rehearsed in Psalm 22 with his own experience at Calvary. What will the big, atheist bullies say? Jesus was born &#...

Thursday, February 26, 2015. Civil Conversation on Civil Unions and Gay Marriage, Or, Before the Shooting Begins (with apologies to James Hunter Davidson). Is it too late? Is it possible, this far into the conflict, to disarm the mutual animostiy and misunderstanding that's fueling our escalating war? Maybe we could start something of a ceasefire with two simple concessions - from both sides of the debate (or rather, as it has devolved into, the on-going cyber shaming and shouting match)? Moreover, with ...

Sunday, March 29, 2015. Wrestling with Ephesians 4:11 in Context. Ephesians 4:11-16 is for many church leaders a defining text, indicating not only the purpose of our ministry (“to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body”) and its end goal (“until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, and reach full maturity”), but also the means. Nevertheless, even if we conclude that these are distinct offices/functions (e.g., see Calvin's co...8220;...

Blessed Chaos: changes
http://waldenhouse.blogspot.com/2010/08/changes.html
This is what things are looking like around here lately. There is a good reason, though. We sold our house! So, what can you do but go out and find another house? And that's exactly what we did. We spent a day with our agent moving from house to house in search of a home for our family. We found one that we all liked and made an offer that afternoon. Our offer was accepted and everything has been smooth sailing since. We were pretty peeved when the owner's of the. I know, duh! We move in a few weeks so I...
Blessed Chaos: simplifying
http://waldenhouse.blogspot.com/2010/08/simplifying.html
As we prepare to move I am doing a lot of weeding. Not garden variety weeding, the indoor kind. All those items in the dark corners of our closets? That I haven't seen since we moved in to this house over three years ago? Those items are going. The crazy number of dishes I have? Slimming down, majorly. The clothes in my closet that haven't touched my body in a year. Going. Supposedly most people only wear 20% of their wardrobe. I fall into that category, so the 80% that I don't wear? This has been my vir...

Blessed Chaos: June 2010

I mentioned a couple posts ago that i was thinking about "starting something.". Well, that "something" has been started. After getting accepted to a local juried indie craft fair (meaning a "jury" selects participants based on pictures of their work) i decided to dive right in to the whole small business thing. Right now, with my first craft fair coming up july 4, i have to get busy! For my first show i will be sticking with small items. here is a bit of what i have been working on. One of many signs.
Blessed Chaos: March 2010

Nothing about this pregnancy had been typical. Conception occured on our fourth (and would be last) cycle of fertility treatments, at 27 weeks we determined he was sick due to my antibodies, and on this day five years ago the atypical nature of my pregnancy with Bean continued. When I went in for that routine visit my doctor reviewed everything with an even more somber contenance than he usually wore and rushed me to labor and delivery. I was 32 weeks along. Today, he is five! Today, he is full of life.

2 I went to Hobby Lobby two weeks ago to pick up some things for Green Seed. And, lo and behold, they had Christmas decor out. No, really. It was right next to all the 4th of July decor. I found myself wondering where we would be at Christmas. Will I be decorating our current home? Or the one we have a contract on but cannot move forward with until we sell? Hmmmm . . I love the unknown. The reason it looks like he's standing in a cloud is b/c he was. We had crazy dense fog this morning! 6 We think bed bu...
Blessed Chaos: Deedah
http://waldenhouse.blogspot.com/2010/08/deedah.html
Deedah is a 26 minute documentary about siblings. One of them has Down syndrome. One of them does not. Their relationship reminds me of Spinner and Bean. I haven't seen the full documentary but have it ordered. All three boys sat with me to watch this trailer. Half way through the second viewing Spinner said, "this just makes me smile.". It makes me smile, too. Thats cool. I like it. August 16, 2010 at 1:24 AM. It makes me teary eyed! August 16, 2010 at 1:18 PM. August 22, 2010 at 10:05 AM.
Blessed Chaos: October 2009

My first baby is seven. But don't dare call him baby. That comes with seven. Or first grade. Or having younger brothers. All I know is gone are the days of. Referring to him as 'baby' or 'cute' or 'sweet.'. It's okay though. I love Seven on Spinner. It has come with a sincere zeal for learning. A love of reading. A bit of a competitive edge. Compassion. For his younger brothers. An ownership of his things. An increased desire to perfect a British accent. Interest in things that are scary (like his dad).
Blessed Chaos: November 2009
http://waldenhouse.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
December is going to be busy for us here at Waldenhouse. I know, big deal. Who isn't busy in December? I don't particularly care to have every square on my calender filled. I'm going to do what I can. Let go of what I can't. I'm going to scale back my to-do list so that I can be with people. Going to send out family Christmas cards this year. Going to Atlanta for a day, with my friend Caroline, to meet Pioneer Woman. Going to dress a "perfect" Christmas tree. Going to feel guilty about missing workout's.

Theology on Tap
Monday, January 29, 2018. What Kind of Theologian Are You? Martin Luther said there were two kinds of theologians - by which he meant two kinds of people. One kind is a theologian of glory, and “does not deserve to be called a theologian.”. The other is a theologian of the cross, and “deserves to be called a theologian.”. That is, someone who knows God. One example of this kind of theology was the bold claim of a certain Eunomius in the 4. That means we do not rise up to it. Exodus 34:4-7 describes God&#...
