Sunday, 22 November 2015. Camping the the Kakadu - NT Part 1. Camping in the Kakadu. I left home early Saturday 21. December, heading for a Christmas adventure in Australia. It was more of an adventure than a holiday as I had planned it all myself, I wasn't going on a guided tour this time. When I arrived at Darwin I caught the local bus to my hotel and was surprised how green and immaculately kept everywhere was; I was expecting burnt, dried grass, but it was the opposite! It is known as “the area...

Wednesday, 17 February 2016. Darwin and Katherine - NT Part 3. Darwin and Katherine - NT Part 3. New Years Day, I was feeling refreshed after a good nights sleep and ready to go out exploring Darwin. I headed out along the lovely esplanade towards the harbour, and couldn't believe how everyone I passed wished me a "Happy New Year". What a friendly start to 2014! There were smaller tanks with different marine fish in them and some of the fronts had concave or convex glass that magnified everything so much...

Saturday, 1 October 2016. A Day in Chester. I went on a coach trip to Chester, but if you drive yourself, there is a Park and Ride system in operation, as well as a large car park very close to the town centre, the river and the race course. I was dropped off at the bus station, right in the centre of the city, an excellent place to start my day; the fabulous Town Hall building was a good landmark for me to get my bearings – as well as it being the Tourist Information Office. I loved the part when the wa...

Saturday, 21 May 2016. A Few Days in Greenland. I got up really early, opening my curtains in anticipation of a glorious morning - but no such luck! I have never seen anything like it; the amount of food boxes, as well as our luggage, that was squeezed into the front of the helicopter was unbelievable. I sat looking out of the side window, and what an amazing ten-minute journey! You could see the ice breaking up, reflections of the mountains on the jet-black ocean, icebergs, more ice and more mountains.

Sunday, 13 December 2015. Red hot in Alice Springs - NT Part 2. Red Hot in Alice Springs - NT Part 2. I had a 4am start for my flight to Alice Springs, which is equidistant between Darwin and Adelaide; it was only a 2-hour flight and the view coming in to land was fabulous. The ground was burnt red, as you would expect; but the McDonnell mountain ranges that run east and west and are the backbone of this remote area were an awesome sight. I followed a series of paths around the entire area and I was deli...

Monday, 28 September 2015. New Zealand and Hong Kong. New Zealand and Hong Kong. Well, I couldn’t have left England with any worst weather! The next morning was Sunday, and the sun was shining, making a haze over the harbour. Our morning trip started at the Peak tramway station where we all boarded the Funicular tram up to the top of Mount Victoria. When I got up next morning, Monday, the view was very different! The streets and the harbour were buzzing! We headed off to the airport at teatime for our ov...

Tuesday, 25 August 2015. This adventure was taking me to the Galapagos Islands, 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador - the entire archipelago a World Heritage Site, so it must be something special! After a briefing on the trip, we were taken for an evening meal. There were 14 of us, another English lady, 2 ladies who were teachers from San Francisco, 2 sisters (both attorneys) from New York, a family with 2 boys from Miami and a family from Canada with 2 teenage girls! We were taken to our hotel, the Casa ...

Sunday, 18 October 2015. Little did I know that it would be the start of a whole new chapter in my life. I drove to Bristol Airport to catch the plane down to St. Mary’s – the main island. I have never been on such a small plane - it only carried 8 passengers; and there was so little space in the cabin you weren’t allowed any hand luggage. I would certainly be taking some of the Scilly Isles back in my very small suitcase – somehow! I wasn’t intending spending too long in my room anyway. Apparently this ...
