beans & barley: Fruit Wine Update
http://beans-and-barley.blogspot.com/2010/08/fruit-wine-update.html
Monday, August 16, 2010. A few months ago I made some pomegranate wine as part of an introduction to winemaking short course. I left it to settle for a month whilst I was in New York, and drank it when I got back. It was.well, it was a first attempt. I didn't really enjoy it that much, Andrew did, but it was better than cask wine. The glass on the left is less cloudy than the one on the right as it had been filtered more carefully, and the glass on the right was poured closer to the end of a bottle.

completely cooked: February 2011

Things that are awesome. Monday, February 28, 2011. Neighbourhood, Long Street, Cape Town. I was in Cape Town with a friend a little while ago and stayed in an awesome little hotel called Daddy Long Legs. It couldn't have been situated in a more perfect position. right on Long Street across from Neighbourhood. Yes! Anyway, the first night we ate nachos and chilli poppers and OH MY! The jalepeno poppers were large and juicy and not too hot. which is always my problem when I make them at home. The staff ar...

completely cooked: Steak Sandwiches
http://completelycookedblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/steak-sandwiches.html
Things that are awesome. Wednesday, October 12, 2011. We made these steak sandwiches one lazy Saturday afternoon. Left over beef fillet steaks from the previous night's braai (bbq);. Hangovers, also from the previous night's braai; and. No one was keen to tackle anything too complicated, lucky for us, the resulting meal was not only easy but pretty darn delicious too. Thyme, basil and any dried herbs your heart desires. Left over beef fillet steaks. Bread or hamburger rolls. 15 October, 2011. MEAT - FREE...

Things that are awesome. Monday, September 19, 2011. The good ol' days. Often, when I eat something I haven’t eaten in a while (but LOVED during childhood), I am disappointed. It seems that ‘when we were young’ isn’t a cliché for nothing. Certain things just tasted better when we were kids. Now, I know some people will say that its just because we’ve now developed a more mature palette so we no longer find the same pleasure in foods we adored as children but I say bollocks to that. Here's why:. I like ma...

completely cooked: May 2011
http://completelycookedblog.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Things that are awesome. Monday, May 16, 2011. House of Curries aka Sunrise, Florida Road, Durban. This place is a staple on boyfriend and my weekly eating schedule. Previously a chilled out, low-key stalwart on the Durban eatery scene, it is now a super vibey, place-to-be-seen. In fact, nothing has changed other than a fully licensced bar opening up next door. Now you can have a few drinks with your meal, which clearly makes all the difference. Every roti, samoosa, bunny and briyani I have tasted at Sun...

Things that are awesome. Monday, October 3, 2011. MEAT - FREE MONDAYS. According to the Meat-Free Mondays South Africa website: A vegan driving an SUV is more eco-friendly than a meat-eater riding a bicycle'. Really? Well, who am I to argue? So, I've been persuaded to join the movement and I think everyone should give it a try - not because its the trendy thing to do, but because going without meat for at least one day a week is good for both your personal health and the environment. Hyperbole and a half.

Fumble Bum: Little Hole of Delight
http://fumble-bum.blogspot.com/2011/04/little-hole-of-delight.html
Monday, April 11, 2011. Little Hole of Delight. I think I'm in love.with an inanimate object. Gaaitjie Salt Water Restaurant. Swoon. Clever, pretty food is my not-so-secret delight and although my starter (smoked tuna, beetroot, radicchio salad and herb toast) was not on par with GK (Gypsy King a.k.a. The Boyf)'s ostrich carpaccio, buttermilk, rocket and a-fruit-similar-to-a-kumquat-but-not-so-sure starter, my main was magical. April 28, 2011 at 10:02 AM. Congrats on your new blog! PS: Great blog name!

Fumble Bum: November 2011
http://fumble-bum.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 27, 2011. Elusive, Sneaky Summer. So, I seem to have eaten my way right through Winter, to find, well, more Winter. Boo. Hiss. I may be overreacting, of course. I've been dreaming of summery lunches in our gardenette and sultry (secret) braai evenings for months now, but instead, on the other side of my months of grubbing, I find grey skies (and not the cool kind), chill winds, wet fur (kitty's obviously), and dark mornings. Summer. You're killing me. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
