Small Town Childhood Memories of the 50s and 60s
Maddox Corner: March 2009
http://maddoxcorner.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Small Town Childhood Memories of the 50s and 60s. Wednesday, March 11, 2009. My brother is eight years old now, and I don't think he believes in Santa anymore. He tells me he knows where Mom and Dad are hiding some of our presents. He's a spoilsport, and I tell him I don't want to know, I want to be surprised. Carl taunts me by constantly telling me he knows what I'm getting, and I try not to listen to him. Alright, I give in, I can't take it anymore. "Show me," I tell him. I tear myself away from the bo...
Maddox Corner: September 2008
http://maddoxcorner.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Small Town Childhood Memories of the 50s and 60s. Saturday, September 27, 2008. The Fourth Grade year is coming to an end. Before it’s over another American goes into space. On May 24th astronaut Scott Carpenter takes off from Cape Canaveral. He lifts off on a Thursday morning before eight o’clock, so I get to see the blast-off before I go to school. I forget about Wee Willie Webber and cartoons today, I’m watching a real space man leave the earth! I’m still getting crew-cuts; my ill-fated attempt ...
Maddox Corner: January 2008
http://maddoxcorner.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Small Town Childhood Memories of the 50s and 60s. Tuesday, January 29, 2008. Second Grade would be over soon. Summer vacation was fast approaching, and I'd be saying goodbye to Mrs. Lamson, relieved that my tenure with her was over. I'd be saying goodbye to my classmates Richie, Tommy, Joyce, Ann and Don and all the others until September rolled around. But would I really see them again, or would I be put into the "other" third grade class? How was it decided? I would spend the summer hoping and praying ...
Maddox Corner: May 2008
http://maddoxcorner.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Small Town Childhood Memories of the 50s and 60s. Saturday, May 31, 2008. All The Right Notes. I liked music at school, but I longed for something more substantial than "Row, Row,Row Your Boat" and "Oh, Susanna". It would just happen. Dad would somehow get home early on a Friday or Saturday night. He might bring home some pizza from Bruni's in Woodbury, or hamburgers and fries from the Steer Inn. The TV would be turned off, and the playing of records would begin. We would play all kinds of stuff, a lot o...
Maddox Corner: November 2007
http://maddoxcorner.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Small Town Childhood Memories of the 50s and 60s. Thursday, November 29, 2007. The jungle gym of thin metal bars, a maze rising up to the sky, decorated with upside down children suspended from the knees, the rock hard ground daring you to fall. This round thing with rails; a whirling disc going faster and faster and the "witch hat", a spinning cone you had to hold on to with your body flying outwards, ever outwards almost weightless, faster and faster and please,God please don't make me let go. Noon would...

Gateway First Four Years and More - 1969 and onward. Year of graduation from Gateway. Gateway: The First Day 1964. A warm September day this first day of school. My first day in Gateway Regional High School just a few yards down the road from my home. I don't have to rush to get ready, the school is right behind my house, so I stay in bed for as long as I can, savoring the last minutes of summer vacation. 2006 Recording of Jack Wiler reading his poem Back To Work. Gateway First Four Years and More - 1969 and onward. Jack Wiler performing Steven McCasland's adaptation for stage of Jack's book, Fun Being Me. Jack let word out that he was going to be performing a one man play in August in NYC. Through a fortunate turn of events I was able to attend and even record the audio of his play. Below I am quoting the notice about the play that Jack put on his blog about the play. By Jack Wiler, adapted for the stage by Steven McCasland. 1 Pace Plaza, New York, NY 10038.

Remembering Debbie: December 2008
http://rememberingdebbie.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 24, 2008. To say that Debbie loved Christmas would be a huge understatement. She knew all the Christmas carols and could sing them from memory and on key. She was in the church choir when she was younger and enjoyed practicing for Christmas and performing at the Christmas services. Mom loved Christmas, too, and they would always find some FM radio station that would play Christmas music constantly for all of Christmas Eve, if not more. Yep - for Deb Christmas was special. My father's ...
