Madhavi and nima international. Kisumu, western kenya/kampala, uganda, july 4-12. The day after I finished the site visit we planned to head to Kampala, Uganda to see another program and see the place we had called home for a few weeks in 2003. So, Nima bought bus tickets and at 12:30 pm we went to the bus station expecting to get to Kampala by 7 pm or so. Well, we made it to Kampala but we got there late, at 12:30. the next afternoon! Madhavi and nima international. For those who haven't seen the blog before, go to the bottom of the page and work your way up. Thanks and please write us or write a response on this blog page any time! Bangkok, december 22-23. This was no different from similar scenes we’ve witnessed in other countries on other continents – it’s the way many people, poor not desperately poor, seem to live in cities throughout the world. We walked up a few steps from the canal to the busy city street...Not really our firs...

Madhavi and nima international. Cape town, june 8-11. We napped in a new hotel (though the hostel was nice, it happened to be in the most musically energetic part of town- read 'loud'- so we moved). The place we stayed in was called Daddy Long Legs. Self-described as an art hotel, each of its 13 rooms was. When we awoke from our nap, we were joined by my sister Pallavi. Madhavi and nima international. Cape town, june 12-15. The days finally started to clear up a little and we had about 48 hours of good sunshine and sometimes clear skies. We decided to take the chance to go to the top of Table Mountain. Though we considered climbing, the temperamental weather made us want to take advantage of the opportunity for some views so we headed up by the cable car. Madhavi and nima international. Bangalore/hyderabad, february 7-13. That this town is prospering is readily evident in its facades and its attitude. Interestingly, it's also a cauldron of political activism, where people rioted after Saddam's hanging and where multiple strikes and protests were happening during our few days there - in fact, there were apparently over 2000 protests in Bangalore last year alone! Khajuraho/ajanta, india, february 3-6. Okay, so its 1:30pm and we are back at the train station...

I will not give back the A/C rights there I’ve become 150% more productive since it was installed 2 weeks ago. We want jeans, t-shirts and cake in our room! Last week was the Water Festival here in Cambodia when apparently millions of people descend on Phnom Penh to watch dragon boat races in the river. Sunday, June 11, 2006. Nirvana lives in Cambodia. It’s true, I was taken back to 1991, was that the year? Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ was the only thing they were playing on the radio, in Detroit that was 89X, to be exact (with a little Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Jane’s Addiction). Were we at St. Andrew’s Hall or at the Shelter in the mosh pit (or trying to get in the mosh pitor maybe just standing around the periphery, wishing we were in the mosh pit)? Tuesday, June 06, 2006.

Just when I was beginning to think there was nothing cooler than an old waxy body of Ho Chi Minh, Maggie and I got to see the King of Cambodia (and yes, there really is such a thing! Regardless, it is nice, and if these fans and A/C force the heat to wait patiently outside my door for me to awake, than I am truly thankful. While I have your rapt attention, I wish to break into song/poem. Ahem,. Once was so white, now so very brown.
