Permaculture, Upcycling and Simple Living. Outsmarted by a rodent. June 11, 2014. June 11, 2014. 3rd night running and I was sure we had got him this time. We woke up to scuffles and celebrated as we imagined the little ratus in the trap we’d set. We planned our next step (who was going to deal with the thing) but no point. He had taken the bait and escaped scot-free, again. How could this happen! Until I closely examined the trap. Pythons in cars and sooo many mandies. Grudy and linc →. Long Pallet Deck...

Permaculture, Upcycling and Simple Living. Long Pallet Deck 101. October 2, 2014. October 2, 2014. Step 1:Obtaining a pallet or two. We purchased 3 sheets of gyprock which were loaded onto the roof of the van with… a beautiful 6m long, hard wood pallet. As it worked out our shed just happened to be 6m long also. Hmmmm… thought Luke. We have also found another way to get pallets. Bunnings! Dig some holes, insert uprights, concrete them in and check they are level. Step 3: Moving the pallet. October 1, 2014.

Permaculture, Upcycling and Simple Living. June 16, 2014. So we had some special hardworking visitors last weekend. Grudy came bearing gifts from the serendipitous one. Homemade and grown mandarin marmalade. And a candle for the short days and long nights. Grudy brushcutted and barrowed, weeded and worked till dark. It was sad to see him go. We can’t wait until august. We get Grudy for a month! Outsmarted by a rodent. June 11, 2014. June 11, 2014. 3rd night running and I was sure we had got him this time...

Making Maple Syrup
Once you have determined the species of the trees, there are only a few steps that need be followed to make maple syrup. They are time consuming steps but they are not complicated. The process begins with tapping and ends with evaporation. The sap itself will appear thin and clear and have a sweet watery taste before it is processed. It may contain debris or sediment and must be filtered before processing and again after processing to produce the pure appearance of a true maple syrup. The best way to sto...
