Creating a DVD slide show – Step 1 (mass convert image format) | Making the Switch
https://makingtheswitch.wordpress.com/2007/05/16/creating-a-dvd-slide-show-step-1-mass-convert-image-format
One Microsoft Employee Documents His Switch from Windows to Linux. Creating a DVD slide show – Step 1 (mass convert image format). May 16, 2007. For an upcoming family event my wife scanned several hundred photos with the intent of creating a DVD slideshow to show at a gathering. Since I haven’t figured out the scanner problem yet she scanned everything on Windows. Since that is done I’m now taking over on Ubuntu. I’m tracking the process as I do it. Perhaps some folks will have suggestions. I’m go...

One Microsoft Employee Documents His Switch from Windows to Linux. Finally got desktop effects working (915resolution xorg.conf). May 13, 2007. After a few weeks of ignoring the issue I decided to try and get desktop effects working. When I would try to use desktop effects my screen would go blank (solid white). In fact I could not adjust my screen resolution either – it was stuck on 1280×1024 at 61Hz refresh (61? Glxinfo would fail on my machine. When I would run it the following would be displayed:.
So what happened? | Making the Switch

One Microsoft Employee Documents His Switch from Windows to Linux. July 27, 2012. Every once in a while a comment comes through asking what happened… here’s the quick story. I quit Microsoft. I followed my interests and now have a day job that excites me and on the side I am getting paid to teach about computer science. I get to work from home most days and I know I’m making an impact. I started brewing beer. I lost 70 pounds (and still going). It’s great to be back. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Notify me...
Burning a VOB file to DVD | Making the Switch
https://makingtheswitch.wordpress.com/2007/06/23/burning-a-vob-file-to-dvd
One Microsoft Employee Documents His Switch from Windows to Linux. Burning a VOB file to DVD. June 23, 2007. To burn the VOB file from dvd-slideshow to DVD (to be playable in a stand-alone DVD player) I used DeVeDe. To create the iso file (it’s easy to use that I won’t explain it) and wrote the iso to the DVD as a regular data DVD. Popped it into our CyberHome $30 DVD player from Wal*Mart and it worked right off the bat. 3 Responses to “Burning a VOB file to DVD”. October 3, 2007 at 2:13 pm. Blog at Word...

One Microsoft Employee Documents His Switch from Windows to Linux. Ruby Continued (links I’ve found helpful so far)…. June 5, 2007. So far so good. I’ve been going through the Ruby Quiz. Archives trying – directed tasks are helpful and the ability to see how others, who really grok Ruby, solved the problem is great. With the basics down I’ve started with Rails. My son has a website idea that I’m helping him implement. He gives the requirements and I knock out the code. September 1, 2008 at 2:31 am. Ruby ...

You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you - James Allen. Sunday, May 27, 2012. Well, we've got a lot going on around here, with Victoria being home-schooled now. Sarah is just finishing up Grade 6 and doing well. She's excited about attending a new school next September for Grade 7. It'll be a new adventure for her. Live life happily. That's my motto. See myself as a valuable member of the human race. Toria's Thoughts: Reading a fantastic essay on fame

You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you - James Allen. Sunday, May 03, 2009. Reading a fantastic essay on fame. I'm currently reading a fantastic essay on Fame by Stephen Fry. Where he says this:. It is interesting isn’t it how very, very important money becomes (even to the most apparently spiritual) when criticising a famous person. ‘What are they complaining about? They’re paid enough aren’t they? And my God, this. And if I was famous?

Toria's Thoughts: A musical meme
http://toriauru.blogspot.com/2009/06/musical-meme.html
You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you - James Allen. Friday, June 12, 2009. Following along on Daniel's blog. Post about a musical meme here's my post. For those so inclined, here’s a music meme. Take your iPod, or alternative daggy unfashionable non-Apple MP3 player, or even your music collection on your computer. Pick a song, maybe one you like at the moment, doesn’t really matter which one. I chose "Lose Control" by Evanescence. I'm me...

David’s Linux Blog. Linux, Open Source, and the rest of Technology. For some reason, I have a habit of placing all kinds of random files throughout my home directory on my laptop. Sometimes things end up in /Documents, other times /Desktop, and still others just in . This is bad. My desktop, on the other hand, I keep squeaky clean. On the other hand, I sometimes have related files on my laptop and desktop… so even more filesystem mayhem. If not, maybe it’s time to learn some Glade and pyGTK. Enter your c...
Kubuntu Issues | David's Linux Blog

David’s Linux Blog. Linux, Open Source, and the rest of Technology. I was inspired by Jono Bacon’s post here. And “ Kubuntu, the Blue-Headed stepchild. 8220; This started as a response to the latter, but I decided this is a better venue. My experience with Kubuntu has been frustrating, to say the least, and I doubt it has much to do with the Ubuntu team. Firstly, the insistence on making everything “big” drives me crazy. How can I use KDE when it won’t let me resize panels? Feed You can leave a response.

I quickly received requests to post notes from my talk, so I’m going to try to write it up here. If I miss anything, I’ll try to keep it updated. Slides are available here: SSH and GPG. They don’t show everything, as a lot of it was Demo and Q&A, documented below. Connect to a remote servia via ssh:. Setting up a Config File. The f...

OOXML Debacle | David's Linux Blog

David’s Linux Blog. Linux, Open Source, and the rest of Technology. By posting the OOXML specs by members of the Boycott Novell group. I want to address a specific issue: why is something applying for ISO standardization so secret? International standards (e.g., ISO) should be open and royalty-free. It’s ridiculous if there’s a “standard” that’s locked in to a single vendor. Can someone explain any sanity to this situation? You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0. Thursday, February 23, 2012. Winter has drifted by without much ceremony. March will be here in a few days and the switch back to Daylight Savings Time. That's the turning point for me. Been pulled away from running on a regular basis so I think I will shelf my spring marathon plan for now. Too many balls in the air at the moment.
