Malcolm's Second Trip to China

Malcolm's Second Trip to China. Tuesday, 30 July 2013. So, how do I rate this trip? I managed to get 79 new rollercoasters to my count; which was pretty incredible, and a small number of those were ones that myself and Kat were the first to ride, which means more to me than the count these days. I visited 54 parks in the 3 weeks I was out there, again some of them we were the first enthusiast group to visit. I have lots of great memories of this trip, with the coaster highlight easily being the visit to ...

Malcolm's Second Trip to China: Hong Kong Sightseeing

http://www.malcolmssecondchinatrip.blogspot.com/2013/07/hong-kong-sightseeing.html

Malcolm's Second Trip to China. Saturday, 27 July 2013. Having left Disney behind a small group of us decided to head to the Lantau Buddha, a huge sculpture atop a nearby mountain. However having seen the Cyclone warnings in place at the park we weren't sure we were going to make it, but we ventured out anyway. Our decision on whether to proceed was made for us by the cable car station which was still closed. A firm arms crossed in an X shape from the girl at the foot of the escalator made that clear.

Malcolm's Second Trip to China: Shenzhen Morning Exploring

http://www.malcolmssecondchinatrip.blogspot.com/2013/07/shenzhen-morning-exploring.html

Malcolm's Second Trip to China. Sunday, 28 July 2013. Having had my practice run on the metro the day before I decided to get up a little earlier and research a couple of other parks for a possible visit later in the day. I had further to go this time so I was up for the first train of the day (around 6.20 in the morning). First stop was the Cultural Palace Amusement Park. At 7 in the morning the park was open to walk around but there were no staff in to operate anything. Now in taking these pictures I i...

Malcolm's Second Trip to China: Cultural Palace Amusement Park

http://www.malcolmssecondchinatrip.blogspot.com/2013/07/cultural-palace-amusement-park.html

Malcolm's Second Trip to China. Monday, 29 July 2013. Cultural Palace Amusement Park. Having had our fill of Happy Valley Shenzhen I then decided to take a small group to the two parks I'd visited that morning. First up was the Cultural Palace Amusement Park and following a very easy metro ride and a five minute walk we were back in the park, and this time it was open. But it was the coaster that we were there to ride and having treated the group to the tickets we got our ride. Tick! Window on the World.

Malcolm's Second Trip to China: Honey Lake Amusement Park

http://www.malcolmssecondchinatrip.blogspot.com/2013/07/honey-lake-amusement-park.html

Malcolm's Second Trip to China. Saturday, 27 July 2013. Honey Lake Amusement Park. So today I fancied heading out to Honey Lake park, one that had been closed for a while. So I wasn't going for the ride, but for the journey. As any good traveller will tell you it's not the destination that matters but the journey there. Our hotel was across the road from the Window on the World, one park we were going to visit later. It has its own metro station and it was that I was going to figure out how to use. My in...

Malcolm's Second Trip to China: Introduction

http://www.malcolmssecondchinatrip.blogspot.com/2013/07/introduction.html

Malcolm's Second Trip to China. Saturday, 27 July 2013. In July 2013, I undertook a 3-week tour of China taking in a bunch of sightseeing and theme park visits. The trip was split into 3 phases. Phase 1 would have me join the European Coaster Club for the majority of their big Summer trip to the country taking in a large number of parks from Hong Kong to Shanghai. This site is a write up of that trip, with a bunch of web-friendly images. Original images are available upon request. View my complete profile.

Malcolms Scandi Trip

Saturday, 23 June 2007. This year's big trip with the ECC was to Scandinavia starting in Helsinki and ending in Copenhagen but having got a bit more confidence with traveling around the world I decide to bolt on an additional week or so at the start taking in Russia and Estonia first. Anyway, enough here's the report. Let's go to Moscow. Day 1 - Getting to Moscow. Met Keith at 6 in the morning at Heathrow airport. Man: Some sort of cursing in Russian. Pursar: "Sir, I don't understand what you're saying".

Malcolm's Musings: A Zoologist Looks at Science Fiction

Malcolm's Musings: A Zoologist Looks at Science Fiction. Friday, 8 August 2014. The secret of science fiction, said H. G. Wells, one of the founders of the genre, is the suspension of disbelief. The writer must introduce something incredible into the real world, but after that, everything flows logically from it. If the whole story is fantastic, it will not be accepted. But if just one item is, then readers are capable of suspending their disbelief. King Kong, Dragons, and the Tyranny of Size. Why very b...

Malcolm's Second US Trip

Saturday, 28 June 2008. In the Summer of 2008 the European Coaster Club undertook a tour of Middle America running from Texas up to Minnesota. Wanting to see a bit more I added a week beforehand taking in Mexico. The week after which was initially heading into Canada but was changed to head west to Las Vegas. So I would be on the road for an entire month; the longest holiday I'd ever done. Flight to Mexico City. No Country for Old Men. Anyway we eventually got to the hotel, the Holiday Inn Express in dow...
