Mambo Press: October 2009

http://mambopress.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 25, 2009. On September 29th our team member Frank, from Arusha, Tanzania, turned 21! We celebrated by bringing our team together for a Chinese feast at the Hendry’s place (Sean and Suzan’s host home) prepared by Sally, our Oriental chef. Monday, October 19, 2009. For the very first Educational Activity Day of the Canadian phase, our group (Saumu, Edith, Frank, Scott, Rachel and myself) took on the topic of Arts in Peterborough. Having taken note of the city's variety of beautiful home...

Mambo Press: September 2009

http://mambopress.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, September 19, 2009. A Gathering of the Nations:The Canada-Tanzania Team at the Curve Lake Pow-wow. The pow-wow was a cultural experience for all, including our native hosts: at one point the MC acknowledged the Tanzanian members of our team as those who had come the furthest to attend the event! I felt that we all left the reserve with a deeper understanding and respect for North America and her first people. Thank you to Wendy McConkey for making the outing possible for us! But despite getting...

Mambo Press: FREE MARKET!

http://mambopress.blogspot.com/2009/11/by-bradley-clements-free-costing.html

Monday, November 9, 2009. A place or gathering for the sale of products. These two words hardly seem to go together. When we do put them together, the dictionary tells us that they mean “a system in which prices are determined by unrestricted competition between private companies.” In OPRIG’s Free Market, located in Sadler House, there are no companies, no competition, and no prices. Everything is free. If you are interested in donating to or “shopping” at the Free Market, check it out on wee...Our inten...

Wednesday, November 4, 2009. EAD #3: Furry little things. The EADs have very broad topics, a couple weeks ago, the topic was "Community". Depending on where you are, it may play a larger part or smaller within the community. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Welcome to Mambo Press! Swahili Word/ Tanzanian Fact. Sally's Adventures with CWY. Monday, March 15, 2010. It's been almost a week now since I've been back in Canada. We spent the last couple days in Tanzania doing evaluations and reflection exercises on our experiences over the last couple months. I've heard from a lot of other people that when they get back from some trips, they fall into a rut of being depressed and frustrated and hard to look at their life before. This will be my last post. Thanks for reading my blog over the last couple months. Once we...

Sally's Adventures with CWY: October 2009

http://sallycng.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Sally's Adventures with CWY. Monday, October 26, 2009. The past couple days have been pretty fun. Last Thursday we helped out at the Free Market Workshops at Trent University. We had the chance to learn how to do silk screen clothing and also put our creativity to the test and created recycled projects with old books. I'll take some pictures once I'm completely done with the book. Here's some from the silk screening. Andrea made the pretty flowery deisgn, I made the sun and another. Girl made the bird one.

Sally's Adventures with CWY. Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Oh Zanzibar oh Zanzibar. This past weekend was definitely a great way to end our last couple weeks in Tanzania. We spend 3 nights in the nearby Island of Zanzibar, quite a touristy place. One of my favorite. Things that we did was the Spice Tour! In the evening we went to the waterfront where there were a bunch of locals setting up theirs stands of food. It was quite the experience and a lot of fun order food. My favorite was this thing cal...The o...

Sally's Adventures with CWY: Almost there!

http://sallycng.blogspot.com/2010/03/almost-there.html

Sally's Adventures with CWY. Friday, March 5, 2010. It’s less than a week till we head back to Canada! It’s crazy how fast 6 months has gone by. To be honest though, I’m a bit relieved that the program is coming to an end. I think most of the Canadian are relieved as well, most of us are really glad to be heading back to Canada. It’s been a great experience overall, but we miss Canada. The lifestyle that I really do miss…. But what’s it mean for the Tanzanians? They’ve experienced the other side &#...
