Reflections on Modern Teaching: May 2016

http://mandyfroehlich.blogspot.com/2016_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 3, 2016. I began planning immediately. I tried to think of what my professors had done that I really liked when I was in college. They:. Made me feel as though they cared and formed relationships. Gave me practical knowledge as well as theory. Remembered that we all had lives outside of school (I happened to have 3 kids while finishing my bachelors). Challenged me to think differently. And I tried to remember what I didn't like:. The work seemed like it was designed only to keep me busy.

I am passionate about learning and my profession in general, but my two favorite components of my position are being able to provide professional development to teachers and present at conferences. I believe that by providing these opportunities to teachers, I am in turn able to reach many more. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Director of Innovation and Technology. Oneword for 2017: Relentless. Reflections on Modern Teaching: The Kids Get It

http://mandyfroehlich.blogspot.com/2017/01/the-kids-get-it.html

Thursday, January 5, 2017. The Kids Get It. I had just gotten home and was sitting eating dinner when my kids started complaining about their homework. My kids hate school. Every single one of them even though they excel, have high GPAs, and are well liked by their peers. When I ask them why they don't like school, their answers range from "it's too easy" to "I don't see how most of it relates to my real life". Hmmmm Sounds like a blog post. Spoken like a true educator's child). Insert blank stare here).

Reflections on Modern Teaching: February 2016

Thursday, February 25, 2016. SLedCamp (Student Led edCamps). A couple of months ago, I was introduced to the idea of Student Led edCamps. Being a Public Relations Coordinator for edCamp Oshkosh and a total believer in the power of the learning that can happen through an edCamp, I was all for trying the idea out. All I needed were some. Teachers who would be willing to work through what it would look like when it was implemented. Lucky for me, three of my fifth grade teachers were up for the challenge.

Reflections on Modern Teaching: June 2016

http://mandyfroehlich.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 4, 2016. How Do We Change Teachers' Perceptions of PD? Last school year, I came up with the idea of creating a Google Apps for Education "Track". Instead of teachers attending one hour sessions on a specific Google App, myself and another Technology Integrator, Matt Callahan. I learned a ton but it took me way longer than it should have.". Why do we need discussion boards? It seems useless to need to talk to other people about this.". If I just finish five modules, can I get five points?

Teaching Learning and Innovation. This is how we roll. Thursday, April 28, 2016. The Start of Flexible Seating. It’s my sixth year of teaching and I feel like I'm changing something. Teaching Learning & Innovation: Flexible Seating: What I Have Learned So Far

http://teachinglearningandinnovation.blogspot.com/2016/06/flexible-seating-what-i-have-learned-so.html

Teaching Learning and Innovation. This is how we roll. Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Flexible Seating: What I Have Learned So Far. Earlier this year I was presented with the opportunity to join our school’s Innovation team. We started by reading a book called The Innovator’s Mindset. This book is amazing and has so many ideas for giving students choice in our classrooms. One of the challenges that I decided to jump into head first was flexible seating. Some bumps along the way:. Who got there first:. Although...

Teaching Learning & Innovation: Embracing the “Innovator’s Mindset” as a Pre-Service Teacher

http://teachinglearningandinnovation.blogspot.com/2016/05/embracing-innovators-mindset-as-pre.html

Teaching Learning and Innovation. This is how we roll. Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Embracing the “Innovator’s Mindset” as a Pre-Service Teacher. One of the first and greatest takeaways from this course had to do with technology use. On day one, Mandy Froehlich ( @froehlichm. The adjunct professor teaching this course, introduced the class to George Couros’ ( @gcouros. Book, The Innovator’s Mindset. Or should class be a total instructional video? Teaching Learning & Innovation: When in doubt, do it.

http://teachinglearningandinnovation.blogspot.com/2016/06/when-in-doubt-do-it.html

Teaching Learning and Innovation. This is how we roll. Wednesday, June 8, 2016. When in doubt, do it. I don't feel well today. (Which is truly terrible as it is a gorgeous day outside on a long weekend! I made myself go to school today to get sub plans ready. Now, I could (should) be resting so I could get better, but as soon as I tried, I panicked. How is this sub going to manage my room with the flexible seating? They were so excited about it they wanted to start that day! Here are the 3 rules we have ...

Teaching Learning & Innovation: Traditional vs. Flexible Seating - Creating a Classroom that Works

http://teachinglearningandinnovation.blogspot.com/2016/05/traditional-vs-flexible-seating.html

Teaching Learning and Innovation. This is how we roll. Wednesday, May 11, 2016. Traditional vs. Flexible Seating - Creating a Classroom that Works. At first I was adamantly against it! Where would all their supplies go? How would I organize the room? Where do I start? It all seemed so overwhelming. Plus, I strongly held the opinion that students needed. The ownership and responsibility that came with having their own desk. Then the pendulum swung. I could conquer all my seating woes and rock at this!

Teaching Learning & Innovation: Empowering Students in Assessment

http://teachinglearningandinnovation.blogspot.com/2016/05/empowering-students-in-assessment.html

Teaching Learning and Innovation. This is how we roll. Monday, May 2, 2016. Empowering Students in Assessment. As an educator I am always setting new goals for myself. How can I improve my teaching to better help the students? Being reflective about my own practices is not an easy task. This year I was challenged by my technology coach to become more of an innovative teacher. Finding out what this meant to me personally was my learning journey this year. May 2, 2016 at 4:11 PM. Friday, August 09, 2013. A New School Year! Here we go again. Another year of school. Belle will be learning about ancient Egypt and hopefully learning all 50 states. Her favorites are still science, but History may be a new love. She has surprised me by asking to do English of all things. I reluctantly purchased a Bob Jones curriculum, but I love it so far. Just my thoughts

Sunday, December 30, 2012. Mornings are hard at our house. It’s Sunday morning and I just want a minute to myself. I want to drink in the Lord’s presence, I want to organize the baking supplies and mail pile and put away the last few piles of laundry. Everywhere I look there is something I could do. It pulls on my flesh that constantly says “perform! 8221; And I woke up with a mild headache. It threatens to sap my energy and keep me down for the day. And I stepped on the scale.
