Maple Cross Birding: 28-07-15 Durlston Country Park, Dorset

http://maplecrossbirding.blogspot.com/2015/07/28-07-15-durlston-country-park-dorset.html

An account of my birding activities usually in and around the Maple Cross area but also including trips throughout the British Isles and the rest of the world. Wednesday, 29 July 2015. 28-07-15 Durlston Country Park, Dorset. A quiet morning mainly due to the strong, gusty wind keeping most passerines out of sight. A juvenile Common Cuckoo was most welcome although viewed briefly in flight at the meadow adjacent the old visitor centre. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Http:/ www.hnhs.org/birds/. Steve ...

randombirder: Walthamstow Reservoirs

http://therandombirder.blogspot.com/2015/08/walthamstow-reservoirs_13.html

Thursday, August 13, 2015. Arriving mid-afternoon on Lockwood as the first phase of storms had past, there was much optimism in connecting with something displaced as a result of the lively weather. Limited rewards were a single Lapwing. That had settled on the shoreline before taking off high before heading south. Three Common Sandpiper. Were down in number from previous days, and my first Green Sandpiper. On the northside, and a juvenile Greater Black Backed Gull. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Wednesday, August 26, 2015. The rain of recent days has drawn in a deluge of migrants up and down the country with coastal areas faring well with some impressive numbers of passerines and passing seabirds. But for us city folk, there's stuff to find too and with a bit of luck, something like a Garganey. Not sure how I managed to miss the Spotted Flycatchers, but there was a single Gadwall. And around six Teal. There A flock of House Martin. Were feeding low over the hide complex. There were two Whinchat.

Friday, June 26, 2015. Melodious Warbler - Marsh Lane NR. It took me a while to get there, around three weeks actually which is around the length of time the Melodious Warbler. Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Marsh Warbler and Lakenheath. The weather is generally nice this time of year and now I can really make the most of my days off. The next target was the Marsh Warbler. At Narborough. This bird had been present for a few days, singing regularly and at times showing well, and only two hours from home. Lucky...

Thursday, May 28, 2015. Twitchfield Haven - Greater Yellowlegs. Sat with the hundreds of Black Headed Gull. On the islands and there were plenty of Avocet feeding on the shallow pools. Anyway - job done. Saturday, May 23, 2015. Suffolk - A Little Bitt of luck and a little Sandpiper. So thanks to mum, I had a car for the weekend, so we raced up to Suffolk for a day-out with plans to grab two newbies. Checking the news en route, we made headway up to Southwold parking by the harbour and then heading al...

http://therandombirder.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 31, 2015. Couldn't resist another trip to North Kent on a still warm afternoon. The Bonaparte's Gull and Temminck's Stint had moved on by the time I arrived but there was plenty still out there to see. Seemed fewer in number than the last visit but at least 300 was still a good count. There were around 50 Avocet. Three summer plumage Golden Plover. Two in summer plumage), six Ruff. Four male, two Reeve), a single Green Sandpiper. A Little Ringed Plover. A juvenile Mediterranean Gull. In full...

http://therandombirder.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 23, 2015. Having missed out on all the fun yesterday out on the reservoirs, I cut a solitary figure as I slowly ambled my way round the Lockwood. The morning looked promising, it was bright with a few clouds, but that wind still had a bite to it. For once, I was in no rush - so I took my time to look. What was evident were the number of Meadow Pipit. The first quality bird were three Scaup. The sun was still shining, but the warmth was being tempered by the cool breeze. A pair of Kestrel.

Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Back again. This time with The Prof. And when I go birding with The Prof. I see things. And this time I saw a new bird. It was the SURF SCOTER. That had been loitering off Holkham Gap for a couple of days. Despite the strengthening wind, the light was great and there were Scoters to be seen on the sea. The bird was associating with three Velvet Scoter. With a few Common Scoter. In the vicinity. Seven Sanderling. Skipped along the foreshore. Was also up to his tricks, white flag...

randombirder: December 2014

http://therandombirder.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 29, 2014. So the last hurrah of 2014 ended on the most beautiful of winter days - the kind of day that dispels the longing for Spring, for warm evenings and extended daylight hours. And having bumped into @porthkillier on the way round, it was a pleasure to share a great mornings birding. So it started at Lockwood where a very vocal Kingfisher. Once again flashed up stream near to the sluice, and a Song Thrush. Skulked within the shelter of the foliage. On the water, a drake Goldeneye.
