Shaw Memorial — Marsolais Press & Lettercarving

Marsolais Press and Lettercarving. The client wanted something bold yet simplified and uncluttered. To contrast against the rough natural cleft surface, the laurel and cross motifs were nested in a textured circle. A gently rounded profile somewhat softens the overall effect. Dimensions: 24"x 40"x 2.5". Carved in Vermont Green Slate featuring a natural cleft surface. Location: Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA.

Pinot Pet Stone — Marsolais Press & Lettercarving

Marsolais Press and Lettercarving. This project made use of a large beach stone harvested years ago for another project which never materialized. Now it marks the resting place of the beloved "Mr Peens" in the client's garden. The letters were drawn by hand, as opposed to the usual method of being designed with a brush, to give them a moderately more playful aspect.

Decorative inscription using one my favorite quotes by Eric Gill, the English sculptor, lettercarver, type designer, etc. Project inspired by the gift of an inscription done by a friend in the 1980s who was similarly enthralled by the work of Eric Gill. Vermont Unfading Green Slate, letters painted 1-Shot Vermillion and Light Blue.
