Meghan in Botswana: October 2010

http://meghaninbotswana.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 28, 2010. On a separate note the last few weeks I have stayed in Gaborone. Life has become pretty rhythmic and consistent but I've definitely had some exciting highlights:. Going to a tomb stone unveiling in Mochudi at 5 am with Alicia and our host moms and then proceeding to feed dinner food to hundreds of Batswana (read: MEAT, PORRIDGE, SAMP, etc.) at 9 am. I'm going spinning tomorrow at 5:15 am with my Setswana teacher, Ntati. Should be a fun time! Monday, October 25, 2010. While Kri...

Friday, November 19, 2010. Walking back from 5:15 am spinning through the dusty field, listening to Wavin' Flag as the sun rose. It was such a simple moment, but it felt so "Africa" to me. I went with Alicia to get her fourth rabies vaccine at Princess Marina Hospital today (Her puppy Russell bit her and oh, never got a rabies shot! Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Out and About in Botswana. 1 Cooking Stir fry at Ronnie's house in Phakalane. 2 My thorn wounds at Lion's Park post- Kgale Hill Climb. Since then ...

Tales of East Africa: Diani Beach Music Festival

http://talesofeastafrica.blogspot.com/2010/11/diani-beach-music-festival.html

Tales of East Africa. Monday, November 15, 2010. Diani Beach Music Festival. A few weeks ago my friend Josh half-seriously suggested we jump on a bus and head to the Diani Beach Music Festival, a chance to listen to some of Kenya’s greatest music on one of Kenya’s nicest beaches. I half jokingly agreed. So on Friday Oct 23 Nicky, Josh and I got on a bus headed to the coast, concert tickets in hand, and that’s about it. Things changed though when we finished the voyage from Mombasa to Diani. During the cl...

Tales of East Africa: Rafting the Nile

http://talesofeastafrica.blogspot.com/2010/11/rafting-nile.html

Tales of East Africa. Tuesday, November 16, 2010. My final desired trip before I left East Africa was to go white-water rafting on the Nile River. In the first weekend of November, Aron and I jumped a bus for Jinja, Uganda; met up with our friend Tara at the bus stop on the other side, and met our friend Sarah who was in the area for business at the adventure office. And not just any rafting. The place was filled with fellow rafters and campers who simply enjoyed the extremely affordable lodging. We took...

Tales of East Africa: Nairobi Halloween

http://talesofeastafrica.blogspot.com/2010/11/nairobi-halloween.html

Tales of East Africa. Monday, November 15, 2010. My expectations for the holiday were not high- considering I was on a continent that didn’t acknowledge the holiday, not to mention the American culture tied to it. That, of course, didn’t stop me from enjoying every minute of it. A great benefit of working in Africa’s largest slum is having Africa’s largest second hand market at my fingertips. Never has costume shopping been so much fun. Isappointed with the costume turnout:. I couldn’t have been mo...

Tales of East Africa: Twenty-first birthday, Kenya style

http://talesofeastafrica.blogspot.com/2010/09/twenty-first-birthday-kenya-style.html

Tales of East Africa. Monday, September 20, 2010. Twenty-first birthday, Kenya style. Twenty-one: by many American standards, the most important birthday celebration in one’s life: the final birthday of importance, the age of an official adult- there is nothing in the world you can’t do because of age-restrictions. When in a college-environment, it’s the best birthday you’ll never remember. Delicious' Long Island Ice Tea, thanks to Drew. Jeff, Johnson, Jos, myself and Drew celebrating at Sherlock's Den.

Tales of East Africa: That thing called work

http://talesofeastafrica.blogspot.com/2010/10/that-thing-called-work.html

Tales of East Africa. Friday, October 15, 2010. That thing called work. Although I hate admitting it out loud, my time with Children of Kibera, and in Nairobi in general, is quickly coming to an end. With less than a month to go with work, I decided it was time to share what it is I’m actually doing in Africa. I assist with and lead various other projects. Below are some of the project highlights over the past three months. My first project upon arrival in Kibera was to lead our high school scholars in a...

This blog reflects my personal opinions and not those of the Peace Corps or the US government. Monday, June 6, 2011. Wow I have been really bad about this lately! Adventures in Spain

Sunday, August 3, 2014. Third Week of Class with My FINAL Schedule. Third week of class with final schedule. My third week of class I finally had a concrete full schedule with five classes, which meant lots of homework and catchup work from the anthropology class I joined. Four classes late. I had never missed a class before, so missing four made life very difficult with a lot of extra work. Don't be scared to go abroad if you're in a relationship! It's such a worthwhile and once in a lifetime experience!
