The Bishop Method of Clothing Construction, from a messy perspective
The Polls are Closed! | The Messy Method
https://messymethodsewing.wordpress.com/2010/12/02/the-polls-are-closed
The Bishop Method of Clothing Construction, from a messy perspective. The Polls are Closed! Thanks everyone for your feedback! A resounding chorus cried out for no underwaist and I will be heeding them. The pro-underwaist movement liked them (or the idea of them) because the underwaist helps hold skirts in place when you have a rectangular body shape. Since I got 99 problems but an ill-defined waist ain’t one, this doesn’t color my decision-making. What was going on back in the Sixties? December 2, 2010.
The Bishop Belt Tutorial | The Messy Method
https://messymethodsewing.wordpress.com/2010/11/29/the-bishop-belt-tutorial
The Bishop Method of Clothing Construction, from a messy perspective. The Bishop Belt Tutorial. Dress and belt in action! What a thing to happen. Here is a quick and dirty illustration of how to make The Bishop Sash. Sew two strips of coordinating fabric, right sides together. Your finished sash will be about two-thirds as long and two-thirds as wide as the resulting piece, so plan accordingly. Now, fold the upper left-hand corner down like you were going to cut out a square for a cootie catcher. Keep pi...

The Bishop Method of Clothing Construction, from a messy perspective. B5147 Dress, sewn and worn! Holy cow, I just read the pattern description again I bet I cut out view D, the gentle A-line calf-length dress, not view C, the one-inch-below-knee sheath. What is WRONG WITH ME? That explains so much. Sigh. I spent the whole time thinking, ‘Great Scot, how odd that this dress comes down to my calf when I only added 2″ in length and I am 5’10! 8217; I am so very, very special. November 16, 2010. Making a Three-Piece Ensemble, 1966-Style | The Messy Method

The Bishop Method of Clothing Construction, from a messy perspective. Making a Three-Piece Ensemble, 1966-Style. Look how proud the illustration girl is of herself, graduating from humble torn project apron to three-piece ensemble! Unfortunately this garment consists of parts that we don’t wear anymore and I’m not sure I feel like being this retro. Not just the sleeveless reversible jacket. This project calls for ignoring what the pattern says and. Adding bias piping loopdy-doos on the blouse front.
Comparing things is easier than sewing. | The Messy Method

The Bishop Method of Clothing Construction, from a messy perspective. Comparing things is easier than sewing. What with the holidays and the root canals and the laziness, I haven’t had time for actual sewing lately so I have embarked on a little bit of sewing geek-out research. Namely, Misses’ Fitting Shell geek-out research. Each major pattern company has a fitting shell —. V1004 Vogue Misses’ Fitting Shell. McCall’s M2718 Misses’ Fitting Shell. bridge street: cowl neck scarf top
http://bridgestreetblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/cowl-neck-scarf-top.html
Thursday, May 15, 2014. Cowl neck scarf top. So, back in August of 2012 I started a top. I made it out of a yard of beautiful, flowy, sheer, scarf-like woven fabric that I bought at JoAnn Fabrics in the red tag section. And by woven, I mean that it is not stretchy. Did I use that woven term correctly? I stashed the fabric away for at least a year because I didn't know what to make from it. But then I came across McCalls 6604. And decided it was a match. Belted and unbelted. Not in that order. But once I ...
bridge street: grey maxi skirt
http://bridgestreetblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/grey-maxi-skirt.html
Monday, May 12, 2014. Is it specific or is it pretty broad? I need to get myself educated. All I know is that I liked this fabric and I wanted it to be a maxi skirt. So I bought it. Yep, just keep telling yourself that. I wore this skirt for a few months without hemming it. I couldn't decide how I wanted to finish it. And then the sewing gods inspired my friend, Lindsay, to give me four skeins of grey serger thread. Coincidence? I think not. Perfect. After wearing it a few more. Months, some of the seam ...
bridge street: baby bloomers
http://bridgestreetblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/baby-bloomers.html
Saturday, May 31, 2014. This morning I made some baby bloomers for a friend's baby shower using a free pattern found here. Super easy. Super cute. There are no specifications in the instructions on what length to cut the elastic for the waist or the legs. I ended up guessing and doing 18" for the waist and just eyeballing it for the legs. Hopefully they work out for the new baby they're intended for. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Lower your presser foot. Erica B.'s - D.I.Y. Style!
bridge street: Raglan Sleeve Knockoff
http://bridgestreetblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/raglan-sleeve-knockoff.html
Thursday, May 29, 2014. I made a top yesterday. From cutting out to last fitting all in one day. I even remembered to wash and dry the fabric the night before. Which is pretty much a miracle for my ADD sewing habits. I have about fifteen projects started and I keep losing interest or getting frustrated so I put things on hold start something else. So I used some "pattern ease" and a pencil and I traced out all the seams. Tracing the sleeves was the trickiest part. Above left, is the original neckline tha...

The Slapdash Sewist: September 2014

An account of my sewing projects and other random parts of my life. Projects Waiting For Me In Stash. Thursday, September 18, 2014. Peekaboo Midriff 40th Birthday Dress. I have been a little obsessed with cutouts lately, I'm not sure why. I put together a Pinterest board. And the one that really struck my fancy was this. At right). And of *course* it had to be just a hosted image, with no link, information, back view, or front view without her hair covering the shoulders. But I got the gist. I first crea...

bridge street: New Top
http://bridgestreetblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/new-top.html
Saturday, May 31, 2014. I made a shirt today. I cut it out last night and sewed it up today. I used Simplicity 1463. Trying to decide on short sleeves or long sleeves. I ended up going with long and adding the arm band as the pattern calls for. Side view. I like the hem line of this pattern. Shorter in the front and longer in the back. I lucked out and got the right side matched up pretty well. The left got a little off, but there were no tears shed over it. I think I'm going to like this shirt.
bridge street: take manhattan tunic
http://bridgestreetblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/take-manhattan-tunic.html
Saturday, May 10, 2014. I made something a couple of months ago. Which isn't big news. I've been making plenty of somethings. But today I'm actually blogging about it! It's a Mother's Day-Eve Miracle! I checked out a book from the library called Twinkle Sews by Wenlan Chia. I have checked this book out probably four times. It's just so pretty to look at. But this time I finally made something from it. I tried the Take Manhattan Tunic. Cut out the pattern pieces. You know the drill. It turned out, meh....
bridge street: in progress
http://bridgestreetblog.blogspot.com/2012/08/in-progress.html
Tuesday, August 7, 2012. This is what I'm working on. McCalls 6604, view A. But I'm stuck for now. I'm completely out of grey thread and I can't decide what to use for the sleeves or how much to cut off of the bottom before I hem it up. It looks way too long. Plus, I want to make this. I like the shirt. Did you get it done? August 30, 2012 at 6:12 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Lower your presser foot. Erica B.'s - D.I.Y. Style! Adonising" Dressing for Dinner. bridge street: Jungle Josiah
http://bridgestreetblog.blogspot.com/2014/03/jungle-josiah.html
Thursday, March 6, 2014. A few months ago, Goldie and Josiah decided they wanted to design their very own super hero costumes. This is what they drew for Josiah. Later Josiah decided he wanted his off the paper and on his frame. During that time the two of us put our heads together quite often and made changes as we saw fit. That is when added the circle and arrow. I came up with several other drawings but when we finished, this is what our designing led to:. Nice job, mama! May 10, 2014 at 7:53 PM.
