Middle-Aged Martial Artist: New Life
http://middlema.blogspot.com/2011/11/new-life.html
The joys and challenges (including ACL injury) of martial arts in middle age. Sunday, November 20, 2011. Am I still a martial artist? I haven't posted for a long time because I made a decision to turn my life topsy turvy. I took a new job much nearer my home, one with a lot of responsibility and requiring real creativity. While I'm saving about an hour and a half a day in commuting time, I'm spending that extra time in the office- and my day has shifted from very early to late. My best guess is that I wi...

Enjoyed the joy of movement I had felt so intensely as a young. To my complete surprise,...

Middle-Aged Martial Artist: Seeking Balance
http://middlema.blogspot.com/2012/02/seeking-balance.html
The joys and challenges (including ACL injury) of martial arts in middle age. Saturday, February 4, 2012. I've started attending my martial arts school's "core" class on Saturday mornings. It's the one day I can attend, it allows me to reconnect with the community there, and it's a great workout. I'm still going to the gym before work 4 or 5 days a week, doing cardio and weights. But the class on Saturday is a good booster for me, physically and psychically. April 13, 2012 at 5:47 PM. I'm 56 and seeking ...

Hack Shaft: A freshman in the middle ages. Martial artist with torn ACL's (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) documents his journey from diagnosis through recovery. Sunday, January 24, 2010. I'm posting some arthroscopic pics near the end of this post, fair warning for queasy readers. Time around has had an interesting start. Hack Shaft: A freshman in the middle ages. Martial artist with torn ACL's (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) documents his journey from diagnosis through recovery. Thursday, December 31, 2009. 3rd time: NOT a charm. I'll be brief since we're heading out the door to a New Year's party (Happy New Year, by the way). Monday at sparring I tried ducking under my partner's kick and coming up with a back fist from underneath. The result: That too-familiar shifting sensation of a joint dislocating. Tuesday was the MRI.
