Discovering Germany

Saturday, August 2, 2014. Back in the USA. Jacob, a fellow exchange student, and I at the airport. I miss Germany a lot but hang on by emailing with friends, listening to German internet radio, and reading a German children's book that I got as a graduation gift (and I'll hopefully be starting a German novel soon). I'll also be taking Introduction to German Literature 1 this coming year, which should be fun. I'm looking forward to having a German class again, especially after I've been to Germany. If my ...

Discovering Germany: More Student Exchanges!

http://www.mirandagermany.blogspot.com/2014/04/more-student-exchanges.html

Monday, April 14, 2014. The title of this blog post, 'More Student Exchanges', might be a little confusing considering I'm on a year. Long student exchange. But let me explain. In the months leading up to my trip to France, I learned a tiny bit of French using the website duolingo. So that I would be able to recognize a few words and phrases while in France. View from Centre Pompidou. Double click the photos in. Order to enlarge them). Chilling along the Seine. The Swedish exchange students and some of.

Discovering Germany: February 2014

http://www.mirandagermany.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 22, 2014. A note before reading; I know the pictures in this post are small, but if you click on them, then you can see all of them a bit larger). A few weeks ago I got to travel to Berlin for my week-long half year seminar for YFU. Although we didn't have time to see all that Berlin has to offer, I think it's a really cool city and I hope to be able to go back some day. But anyway, on to the stuff I. Basically the coolest thing ever! Which then inspired this movie. Last night I went t...

Discovering Germany: December 2013

http://www.mirandagermany.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 9, 2013. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Made a wreath, and spent a good part of yesterday baking Lebkuchen, which is sort of like gingerbread. I got to see the new 'Hunger Games' movie with some friends, and thought it was really good and just love watching films in general. That's all for now- tschüssi! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Other Great Exchange Trip Reads. My Student Exchange in Germany. Wake up and LIVE. Bist du nicht müde, nach so vielen Tagen? A)way to the World.

Discovering Germany: September 2013

http://www.mirandagermany.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 19, 2013. So, I have officially made it through my first week of German high school! Last Thursday I woke up to the pattering of rain on the roof, ate some breakfast and got ready for school, took an obligatory first day of school picture (you're welcome mom! We went out for ice cream after school one day. On that note, Bis Später! Saturday, September 7, 2013. The Alps at sunrise. Many ice cream shops. Needless to say, vacation was awesome! School starts on Thursday and I'm a bit nerv...

Becoming German: November 2010

http://germanyjames.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

The Exchange Year and Beyond. What's worse than not getting mail? Knowing that people have sent you mail, but not having received it yet. Damn you, slow international shipping! After the concert Markus and I ran into a random gas station on the way back to the car, and I just about fell over when I saw that they had Mountain Dew Code Red! I bought a 4 pack, of course. So that was my Friday. Pretty great if I do not say so myself. That's all I've got at the moment. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Becoming German: November 2013

http://germanyjames.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

The Exchange Year and Beyond. Two Weeks from Twenty. At the request of my grandmother and great Aunt, I've decided to take some time out of my "busy" schedule and give everybody an update on what I've been up to in the last few weeks. Towards the end of October there wasn't much going on. I'd really settled in, met a bunch of cool people, and was finally in a normal routine, which was nice. But really, it seems. All in all it was a pretty interesting conversation. On November 9th I woke up at some ridicu...

Becoming German: December 2010

http://germanyjames.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

The Exchange Year and Beyond. So I had my Birthday. On which I turned 17. It started out with my parents coming into my room at 06:00 with a cake, and singing Happy Brithday to me, and giving me some super awesome HSV tattoos! Then I got ready, after that we had breakfast 'together', and I opened up my presents. From Christoph, Johannes, and Markus I got a ticket to the Hurricane Festival. Me on My birthday with my cake and presents in the background. Random picture of Lennart, Markus, and me. So it's be...

The Exchange Year and Beyond. So slowly buy surely we are coming down to the last few days before I head off to Germany and the beautiful city of Regensburg. I'd like to start off by letting you know that to the right of this post there are links to some awesome blogs of other people currently living abroad. Check them out! How am I getting there? How will I pay for things? Next post will come once I'm in Germany, but it'll probably won't be until after I've been there for a few weeks. Wake up and LIVE.

Becoming German: June 2014

http://germanyjames.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

The Exchange Year and Beyond. Das Ende ist mein Anfang. I just realized that my last blog post included both Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is how I knew that it was probably time for an update. Quick updates from end of last post:. I mentioned having exams in February, which for the most part went very well, but you can’t be successful in everything all of the time. I spent a week in ‘Munich’ with YFU! I interviewed for a job at UND, and didn’t get it. All in all, a really great time. It was, however...

The Exchange Year and Beyond. Für eine kleine Ewigkeit. This text is also written in German and is located under the video! Both text say pretty much the same thing but if you can, I would recommend reading both of them. Diese Text gibt's auch auf Deutsch und kann unter der Video gefunden werden. Die Texten sind mehr oder weniger gleich, aber wenn du kannst, würde ich es empfehlen die Beide zu lesen. Waiting for my train. Town Musicians of Bremen. With Markus in Philadelphia. Becoming German: February 2011

http://germanyjames.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

The Exchange Year and Beyond. Where'd the snow go? In the last month.and a half. quite a bit has happened! And thanks to my new Journal, I can remember most of it! So sometime in mid-January, not 100% positive on the date, Christoph, Markus, Lennart, and I went to Hannover to watch our hockey team, The Hamburg Freezers, play. Which would have been super awesome, had they not of lost 0-5. Although they lost it was still a lot of fun to go and watch them play an away game. Berlin (YFU); May 24th-27th.

The Exchange Year and Beyond. Winter is Coming (? For everybody who may have been wondering if I am still alive, the answer is yes, I am alive and well. And for anybody who enjoys the post, you can thank my grandma and the Z for reminding me to write it! After eating we spent some time in the kitchen, digesting and drinking some beer to help, before heading to a bar to bring an amazing evening to a perfect end. Sadly, he couldn't be saved. Follow Me for Inspiration! My process generally goes something like this, I find a bead/beads that I find inspiring. Sometimes what to do with them comes quickly, sometimes I set them aside for a while and think on it. I keep a different project in every area I could possibly have a few minutes to pick it up and work on it. That way I am able to accomplish at least a little every day.

Chronological Guide to the Bible. June 2, 2014. I went on a summer project a few years ago with Cru. And received a The One Year Chronological Bible NIV. While there to use. It was a great way to change up how I had been reading my Bible. I loved being able to read the Psalms alongside of what David had been experiencing at the time and reading the gospel accounts together, really gave me a new perspective on Jesus and his disciples and the different purposes the authors had in writing their accounts.
