Armchair Design: March 2011
http://armchairdesign.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
MMO design snippets from safety of an armchair. Friday, March 25, 2011. Why fun things in mmo get nerfed? It was fun as hell blowing crap up with sabo. It was equally fun (even more so) raping face herp derping people in 3 gcds as a champ. It was fun grabbing 10 mobs and aoe em as reaver/rb spec. Of course we know the answer but perhaps making everyone ridiculously fun is better approach than making everyone. erm. nerfed. Not to self : consider seriously mmo combat design which are pure unnerfed fun....

Armchair Design: April 2011
http://armchairdesign.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
MMO design snippets from safety of an armchair. Monday, April 25, 2011. Just read this post. Among other issues exposed are severe population imbalance, vulnerability to botting and gold sellers in f2p, . Imho everyone thinking about design should ask himself what mechanism I have in place to prevent such things? Thursday, April 21, 2011. What MMOs are made of part 2. Lineage2 did not look personally attractive to me. Arcemu -extensible with external lua http:/ arcemu.org/. WCell- obscure academical emu,...

Armchair Design: June 2011
http://armchairdesign.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
MMO design snippets from safety of an armchair. Tuesday, June 14, 2011. Recent Wizardry MMO announcement (which I frankly think will turn out to be vaporware) sparkled my interest in permadeath aspect. I personally never played MMO with it , but after brief google-fu apparently EQ had an experimental ruleset server they used for a contest. It was called Discord. To get some snippets of experience read :. Http:/ everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html? Maybe tweaked for more lenient XP curves and such and cer...

Armchair Design: World of Tanks (WoT) review
http://armchairdesign.blogspot.com/2011/05/world-of-tanks-wot-review.html
MMO design snippets from safety of an armchair. Thursday, May 5, 2011. World of Tanks (WoT) review. When I first heard of it I would never think it would be a good game. First - what a silly name! Second f2p MMO with tanks? There is lots of history and background you can dig into (did you know there was a french tanks ace who killed 13 tanks alone? Can you name top 3 tank aces? The main thing - playing tanks is simply fun.2nd - if you interested in tanks at all (and you will be if you male geek - eve...

Supreme Commander 2 is still pretty supreme at What Would Matt Do
http://www.whatwouldmattdo.com/2010/10/25/supreme-commander-2-is-still-pretty-supreme
What Would Matt Do. I reckon I aim to play some games. Supreme Commander 2 is still pretty supreme. I’d say it’s the best of both worlds, SupCom1 and 2 added together. Easier to manage economy and still the ability to set guys up on long queued orders. And the improved AI? Very cool. Still a bit iffy in parts, but gives a convincing game of awesome whenever you want one. You can also create a custom AI and tell it to go all air or to turtle up, whatever kind of game you’re thinking of.

Penny Arcade calls out XBox Live Arcade at What Would Matt Do
http://www.whatwouldmattdo.com/2010/10/28/penny-arcade-calls-out-xbox-live-arcade
What Would Matt Do. I reckon I aim to play some games. Penny Arcade calls out XBox Live Arcade. Do you remember Uber Entertainment? They are the dudes, and dudettes (that’s right, I said it), that created Monday Night Combat. A very interesting take on the Demigod/DOTA/DTD type game. A really cool game that needed a patch more than a month ago. And why didn’t it get that patch until now? If I did that in my industry, I’d be fired. Penny Arcade rightfully calls them out. I’ve been an Elite fan for a long time, so naturally I backed the kick starter. Since I’m in the middle of seeking new employment, I’m not getting a great deal of time to play, but you may see me flying around as ‘kfsone’ if you too are trying to beta. Gamer turned dev – and a server developer at that, wth? Past entries and articles…. December 29, 2006 at 12:14 am. So…you learned Unix a while back. Any of it supporting ww2ol? I know no one’s going to bother with a Linux client for the game, but it would be nice. Rebooting into windoze to play gets old, not to mention turning my Linux uptime stats from months into hours. And my laptop seems to have issues with the game, so when I’m on the road (like now), no ww2. Depressing. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Massive flop | kfsone's pittance

Gamer turned dev – and a server developer at that, wth? July 2, 2014. A “massively online game” is a game with a large enough population that there will be some requirement to distribute processing work and some form of shared, persistent state that is going to make distribution non-trivial. There are two main ways you can flop across the finish line, whether you’re a new startup or an established and successful developer…. They build a product that marvels reviewers and E3 pundits right up until they la...
