VIDEO) Spinning with the Babe’s Pinkie Spinning Wheel. May 30, 2014. Spinning is Old School. Spinning with a spinning wheel originally dates back to around the 11th century. Here at Suburban Stone Age, it dates back to last month. After 120 agonizing days spinning with a drop spindle. In 2010, I swore the next time I’d make yarn I’d be doing it with a spinning wheel. Four years later, that has finally come true. Meet my first spinning wheel; the Babe’s Pinkie Double Treadle wheel. Fossil Fuel Free Fiber.

Spinning Yarns: Part 4 – Plying Your Trade. August 22, 2011. We carded the fiber, not it’s time to ply it. Plies are strands of twisted fiber, which are twisted together again to make yarn. In the below video, we start with the ply itself. As I get further into this process, I become increasingly self conscious about my novice status. So if I have misnamed something or have poor technique, please feel free to comment and correct me. Comments… read them below or add one. Welcome to Suburban Stone Age!

Southern Gravy: Steam Fry
http://southerngravy.blogspot.com/2013/12/steam-fry.html
It's all gravy baby! Thursday, December 19, 2013. Steam Fry is a traditional Native American dish. . A friend had posted on Facebook asking if any of his Southern Native friends knew the recipe. Being a Southern Plains Native - I had never heard of Steam Fry so, I went on a little mission to find it. I asked my Dad as well as several of my fellow Southern Natives and they came out of the woodwork telling me how to make it. Why have I not had or heard of this glorious dish before?
