This weekend’s free Walk London Spring into Summer excursions saw us with a group of enthusiastic walkers making the trek across the top section of the London Loop – a 150-mile walking path around the outskirts of the capital. The three and a half mile ramble saw us passing woods, Georgian houses and the site of a 15. The last part of our walk took us along the south side of Monken Hadley Common. Thursday, 30 April 2015. Clandon Park House gutted by fire. Very sad news about the devastating blaze at Clandon Park House, in Surrey (above, before the fire) . According to the National Trust, the flames that began in the basement have left the 18. C stately home ‘a shell’ after most of the roof, lintel, ceilings and floors collapsed. Last year there were lots of cottage garden plants – this year’s ‘Summer Retreat’ has a distinctly Caribbean feel.
