Jeffles In Japan: October 2011
http://jefflesinjapan.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 27, 2011. Food It's why we manage to keep going as the day progresses. It's a spicy touch to our day, a bit of pleasantness if we're lucky. It reflects the culture of those around us and they way we eat it broadcasts our own personalities to those same people. This is why, I believe, one of the most important things you can do when you travel is to eat. Of course, if you're traveling, you have to eat. If you're alive. You have to eat. Unless you want to stop being alive, that is. My mum...

Jeffles In Japan: July 2011
http://jefflesinjapan.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 24, 2011. Oh man, have I ever had an interesting last couple of days. If you're on my facebook, you'll know more or less what instigated the primary worry of this time. In short: my passport went through the washing machine. This is where it gets complicated. I need my passport to cross the border. That night I went to sleep, a happy, exhausted man, at a much more reasonable 8:30 PM. I don't think the Sun had even set yet. Yeah, it's been a fun few days. Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Speaking of...

Jeffles In Japan: December 2011
http://jefflesinjapan.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 16, 2011. I'm back for post numba 2! First, an update. My lack of heat has been very thankfully solved. Turns out that the gas was off for some reason and, to fix it, all I had to do was press a button. Which was, of course, the only button on the gas box. *headdesk* There was, apparently, no need to suffer through three days of winter camping inside my own house. Hot showers are awesome. That's all I'm sayin. Another update: I finally (FINALLY! Posted another video on youtube. Here's a ...

Jeffles In Japan: What's in a Name?
http://jefflesinjapan.blogspot.com/2012/04/whats-in-name.html
Saturday, April 21, 2012. What's in a Name? So, the last post was kind of a non-post and I feel like I should make up for it. So here you go, have a Japan story. One of the by-products of teaching English in a small community in Japan is that you tend to be around kids a lot. And when you're around kids a lot, it is inevitable that you are also going to be around their parents at some point. Because kids and parents go together like. like two things that go really well together. Thinking she was just exc...

Jeffles In Japan: January 2012
http://jefflesinjapan.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 26, 2012. Attack Of The (Killer? The flu has come. The season has arrived. And are we ready for it? On the one hand, Japan seems to take this stuff seriously. Every day at the office/teacher's room, I overhear phone call after phone call talking about influenza. For weeks, teachers have been asking me, "How are you feeling? Anyway, strange hygenic practices aside, it's certainly been somewhat interesting to be in Japan during a flu outbreak. Unfortunately for me, I have also become ...

Jeffles In Japan: May 2012
http://jefflesinjapan.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 31, 2012. On the Shimanami Kaido. Hello again, sorry for the absence last Thursday. I wish I had an explanation, but I can't actually think of why I didn't post anything. Probably just got too caught up in life. At any rate, I have an adventure to relate to you. That shall the meat of today. But first, a little geography lesson. If you look at a map of Japan, you will notice that Japan is, in fact, not a single island. It is four islands. From north to south, they are Hokkaido. But be warne...
