After Oxford I lived in Vienna and Budapest before finding out that you could write for money. I joined the BBC in 1996, and was mainly based in Newcastle before becoming institutionalised by the glorious BBC World Service. I also present podcast interviews with authors of books on Africa, Journalism and Europe for the New Books Network.
