Moore on Guam: December 2009
http://kmguam.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 31, 2009. Head in the clouds. One of my favorite movies is "A Walk in the Clouds." On the last leg of our Sicily trip we literally walked in the clouds when we went up 2,500 feet on the western coast of Sicily to a little medieval town named Erice. By Mussolini. (It was first called Gebel. By the Arabs who lived here first and Monte San Giuliano. By the Normans who came after) Steve had to navigate narrow switchbacks right up against the edge of the cliff to get us here. And there is m...

Moore on Guam: August 2010
http://kmguam.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 12, 2010. The unexamined life is not worth living. My latest Winnie the Pooh "Think, Think" thought is tied to a poem I just read: "the Buried Life" by Matthew Arnold: (It reminded me of Thoreau's 'The unexamined life'). But often in the din of strife, there rises an unspeakable desire after the knowledge of our BURIED LIFE.". 1) Climb Mt. Fuji, the highest Mountain in Japan,. 2) Walk the Great Wall of China,. 3) Listen to an Opera in Sydney, Australia. 4) Visit the Pyramids. Realistical...

Moore on Guam: October 2011
http://kmguam.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 17, 2011. New LInk to my blog. I have run out of room on my blog for pictures which are stored by Picasa. They want me to buy more photo storage through them, and I am too cheap for that. So I made a new blog so I can add photos. Http:/ mooreonthat.blogspot.com/. I am hoping that now that I've sent everything from my blog to book to print (by the company BLURB) that I can just erase all the photos in Picasa but we will see. Anyone else have this problem? Moore on Guam: June 2010
http://kmguam.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 28, 2010. Having studied ancient Roman history, it was inevitable that we'd go to Istanbul, Turkey to see where the Roman Empire moved its headquarters. I have to say that Istanbul is one of the most unique places we have ever been. This beautiful cistern lies beneath the city, near the Hagia. The famous roman aqueducts brought water here. Between the lights and the soft music playing, we were enchanted. The spice Bazaar was nearby the mosque and of course we had to stop in. I wanted to go b...

Moore on Guam: October 2010
http://kmguam.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Living LARGE on a small island. If you walked under this arch into Ypao Park (as the locals call it) this past weekend, you could get a glimpse of Guam before the Germans, Spaniards, Japanese or even American's showed up, as well as life on the outer islands of Micronesia. The yearly Micronesian Island Fair promotes pride and a true taste of culture past and present. This is a Guma Malitau. Now this hut is the kitchen or the Guma Fina'tinas. In his cooking pit he had volcanic r...

Moore on Guam: February 2010

Saturday, February 20, 2010. This is Brendan's first year to set the basketball down, pick up the singlet and try out wrestling. I had to laugh as this is the SMILING pictures of the AOSR wrestling team. And the UNSMILING pictures. Really not too much difference. Hmm the wrestler's faces don't look too different that the unsmiling Marines that posted the colors for the home meet. Or that of Steve's who was doing the score cards. But I can count on Brendan boy to smile. You can't see it clearly here.

Moore on Guam: April 2011
http://kmguam.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 29, 2011. When the news is depressing, with 260 dead in Southern U.S. states after tornadoes flattened cities, you can either hunker down and feel like Chicken Little that the sky is falling or you can do something "daring" to make you breath in life deeply . Choosing the later, we strapped on our hiking boots and got a little lost, dirty, sweaty and loved every minute of it. A mile down we came to the top of the dam. This is probably the cleanest we have ever returned from a hike. The main...

Moore on Guam: January 2011
http://kmguam.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 10, 2011. There were huge waves from an off shore storm crashing onto this landing beach. Having recently seen the mini series "The Pacific," my minds eye could see those 3 US cruisers in the ocean with young men wading across this pounding reef, amid torrential gunfire, attempting to rescue the island people of Guam who could not defend themselves. And then, a dark cloud crossed over my mind, and I wondered if we have lost all that was good and noble in our country? Have we become a nati...

Moore on Guam: September 2010
http://kmguam.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Deep blue - one color of love. We took the train to Anzio and then a ferry to this harbor so quaint and colorful that my eyes watered, and I had to blame it on the bright sun. Never mind that I normally get sea sick, THIS TIME my stomach was doing flips of joy. I was in the throws of missing Italy and this wonderful 20 mile island was a great parting gift. Truly this is where they got the phrase "died and went to heaven.". Steve eventually coaxed me up and out and we had a ...
