Love and Disdain: August 2013
http://loveanddisdain.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 27, 2013. I wrote a book! Pity that I can't enjoy any real vacation after that, since classes start tomorrow. But you know, you roll with the punches. And honestly, it doesn't bring me down that classes start tomorrow. I have written a book. I have seen its voluminous pages neatly tucked into a Priority Shipping box and sent off to my editor. I have formally updated my CV to list the book as 'in press'. (This is the right term once it goes to copy editing, right? Another scholar is more f...

Love and Disdain: Say I can say words only simple
http://loveanddisdain.blogspot.com/2014/06/say-i-can-say-words-only-simple.html
Sunday, June 1, 2014. Say I can say words only simple. Stuff is beginning to happen, rather fast. Not just stuff, you know, but Stuff. I'm pretty scared, honestly, but I'm also hopeful. I'm too excited and scared and nervous to say much more than that. But I'm hopeful that all the changes will bring good things. Wish me luck, friends! Fie upon this quiet life! June 1, 2014 at 11:58 PM. June 2, 2014 at 1:06 AM. Wishing you the best luck! June 2, 2014 at 8:46 AM. I cant wait to hear what youre up to! Keefa...

Love and Disdain: March 2014
http://loveanddisdain.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 25, 2014. I give the hat tip to nicoleandmaggie for the spiffy New Orleans jazz arrangement of "Sweet Child o' Mine.". I never really loved "I want you back" in the original version; the Jackson 5 were Michael Jackson and four bozos, not a band. But Lake Street Dive slows down the song to a seductively langorous tempo, and all four of them are actually talented. Add in some jazz instrumentation and some tight vocal harmonies, and it goes from gimmick to showstopper. Sunday, March 23, 2014.

Love and Disdain: RBOC: Notes from the Bosstown job hunt
http://loveanddisdain.blogspot.com/2014/06/rboc-notes-from-bosstown-job-hunt.html
Monday, June 16, 2014. RBOC: Notes from the Bosstown job hunt. I'm in Bosstown now! See photo of downtown Bosstown.). Fuck me, new wardrobes are expensive. Here in Bosstown, people dress a lot more formally than in any university I've ever heard of, and that goes double for interview attire. On the plus side, I've got some nice shirts now, and some killer ties to go with my new suits. I also have a beautiful pair of business-dress shoes. It's in the goddamn 90s already; it just isn't right. And dont you ...

Green Thoughts: Full circle, with improvements
http://toagreenthought.blogspot.com/2012/09/full-circle-with-improvements.html
Meanwhile the mind, from pleasure less,. Withdraws into its happiness:. The mind, that ocean where each kind. Does straight its own resemblance find;. Yet it creates, transcending these,. Far other worlds, and other seas;. Annihilating all that's made. To a green thought in a green shade. Andrew Marvell, "The Garden" 41-48. Wednesday, September 12, 2012. Full circle, with improvements. A couple of years back, I posted this. About how we plan out our time and energy. In a New Yorker. And though I look for...

Love and Disdain: September 2013
http://loveanddisdain.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 23, 2013. Memo to college boys. OMFG you fucking filthy animals, FLUSH THE FUCKING TOILET. Tuesday, September 17, 2013. The self-loathing never ends. Feasible within a reasonable amount of time. Instead, I went to bed in a deep funk last night, excoriating myself for being a fraud of a pseudologist* who would never properly understand theory and would have to read for six months at a shot to grasp what everyone else already knew. To my general anxiety that I won't land a job this year?

Love and Disdain: May 2014
http://loveanddisdain.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 22, 2014. Would this be the equivalent of a lawyer styling hirself "Doctor X," on the principle that the juris doctor. Degree says "doctor" — technically true, but essentially bullshit? For those who have opinions one way or another here, I have a few follow-up questions: whom should one approach at a university to request affiliation? Should I hit up the chair of the pseudology department? A colleague I happen to know a little in said department? How should one make the request? The more s...

Love and Disdain: July 2014
http://loveanddisdain.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 15, 2014. I think I shall make my blog's unofficial hiatus official for the time being. I'm spending way too much of my days in front of a computer screen anyway. Have a good summer, all! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A young academic pseudologist on the hunt for fame, fortune, and the tenure-track. Alumnus of Dear Old University. Love and Disdain: April 2014
http://loveanddisdain.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Beckettesque moment, plus chametz. Subtitled, "I can't do this anymore. I did it some more.". My point is that I dashed off an entire application for it in approximately ten minutes. And then went back to other, more promising stuff. Did you know that Blogger considers 'matzo' the standard spelling? I tried typing 'matzah,' and it complained of a spelling error. Apparently, if Blogger were Jewish, it would be Orthodox. Saturday, April 12, 2014. Everyone knows you're going to live.
