Mouse Borg Designs

Tuesday, 9 June 2015. I'm not sure if I have any construction photos of this but if I do they're in the other computer where I can't get them at the moment. If I find them I'll update this post. I started this waistcoat quite a few months ago (when it was very cold outside). It's made of an old wool blanket, which was the same pale greenish colour as old tupperware. I sort of used a pattern, but I drew on the uneven edges freehand after tracing out the basic shape. It's very bulky and warm. I don't think...

Mouse Borg Designs: February 2014

http://www.mouseborgdesigns.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, 13 February 2014. I apologize for my absence. I have been busy with school things again and am behind on my own sewing projects. Now, since I have no posts on actual sewing, here is another thing from the Old Stuff Collection. I found this capelet in a trunk in my Grandparent's attic. It would have looked very nice with the reticule. That was in the same trunk. Madame Demorest's Illustrated Portfolio of the Fashions For 1880. ( Source. The Ladies Home Journal, March, 1898. Mouse Borg Designs: March 2015

http://www.mouseborgdesigns.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Friday, 20 March 2015. A bit about what I'm working on. I'm very busy with school at the moment. The college fashion show is April 11th and I've been working very hard on my line. I've got a lot of things to sew, but I think I'll manage. Since I don't have many completed garments yet, I thought I'd share some pictures of the studio. Me at the cutting table. And some pictures of the rest of the studio. Racks full of patterns, and one of the ironing tables. This is the machine I usually use. I cut 4 strips...

Mouse Borg Designs: May 2014

http://www.mouseborgdesigns.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Monday, 19 May 2014. Pants have been on my to- do list for a very long time. I was down to two pairs of store bought pants, because I didn't want to buy new ones knowing they wouldn't fit. Last year I had four pairs, but two have since worn out, so sewing pants was something I couldn't put off any longer. I made the pattern using the basic pant draft from school. I gave it a waistband, a fall front, and pockets. For the fall front I made two plackets, like you might find on a modern shirt cuff. I hemmed ...

Mouse Borg Designs: December 2014

Wednesday, 31 December 2014. Big Black Tailored Overcoat. One of the classes this year was Tailoring, and I am making a coat. The class is over, but my coat isn't quite finished yet. I gave my pattern a very big collar and lapels. Since it's such a long and involved process, I'm not going to go through every single step of making it. The sleeve being sewn. My fabric is wool melton, and my lining is rayon bemberg with blue and burgundy threads. Here's my under collar. Attaching the welt and pocket flap.

Mouse Borg Designs: October 2014

http://www.mouseborgdesigns.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, 26 October 2014. Punk Frock Coat Construction Finished. The denim frock coat. It's far from finished though. I have many more patches to paint and sew on. I've changed my mind since writing this. I like it the way it is and will make a different one to add more patches to. My hair is a little different now. I hadn't made the pocket bag pattern yet in the last post because I wanted it to hang at the correct angle. The pocket bag pattern piece pinned into place. The finished pocket, without the flap.

My build logs, documentations, and research. Updates may be.sporadic. Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Sture Suit: Finally (almost) Complete. 160;            . My build logs, documentations, and research. Updates may be.sporadic. Saturday, January 31, 2015. Historical Sew Monthly, January: Foundations. Being worn without an outer layer- I was rather cold. For the first entry this year, I have a simple undertunic.  . Matsukaze Workshops: Installing a sleeve vent

http://matsukazesewing.blogspot.com/2015/07/installing-sleeve-vent.html

My build logs, documentations, and research. Updates may be.sporadic. Friday, July 10, 2015. Installing a sleeve vent. None of them had working buttons, of course, but the construction is close enough- the main difference is in the lining. Alright. Your sleeve pieces should look approximately like this. When you draft, you need to add enough length to double up on the vent. If you didn't, you can always sew on a piece to be the facing. Sew up the forearm seam. Simple. Sew along that seam. I trimmed m...

Maps and the Geospatial Revolution Assignment

My goal with this map is to create a "what's on" guide for my home city, Johannesburg South Africa. I'm hoping to turn it into an interactive map for a hobby website I do www.joeblog.co.za. Which reads an iCalendar file downloaded from facebook and then draws a map plotting that day's events. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a little too ambitious for the time given for this assignment, but hopefully will be up and running within a few weeks.
