Mr. Stahl's Mathatorium

Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Repost from http:/ crazymathteacherlady.wordpress.com/. Today we played my favorite review game. I love it because it is so simple. I quickly create a Kuta worksheet. But this can be done with examview player, or just a boring worksheet way zoomed in to only see 1 problem at a time too. Repeat as long as its productive, usually about 15 or 20 minutes. Sometimes I announce at the beginning of class that a specific number of stamps equals a perfect score and to grade, I just cou...

Mr. Stahl's Mathatorium: August 2013

http://mrstahlonline.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 25, 2013. Metric to Standard Conversions. Is 25 miles per hour fast? Definitely not", says one student. "That's slower than the speed limit on 7 HWY", says another. It is difficult to visualize exactly what 25 miles per hour looks like. The length of a mile and the time it takes for one hour to pass doesn't allow us to fully grasp what 25 miles per hour is. What if we were to look at that rate in regards to our classroom? We could do so by converting 25 miles per hour into feet per second.

Mr. Stahl's Mathatorium: Day One Adventures

http://mrstahlonline.blogspot.com/2013/08/day-one-adventures.html

Sunday, August 18, 2013. I am thankful that our school district is one of the latest starting districts in the Kansas City area. The weather this past week has been phenomenal and allowed our staff to relax, plan, and gear up for another school year. Of the link. I have copied the student answer sheet and masters below. Following the icebreaker, I plan on speaking to the power that critical thinking plays in mathematical problems and solutions. To get them analyzing a situation and forming their own ...

Mr. Stahl's Mathatorium: 59 Prompts for Mathematics Journaling

http://mrstahlonline.blogspot.com/2013/08/59-prompts-for-mathematics-journaling.html

Friday, August 9, 2013. 59 Prompts for Mathematics Journaling. One of our new "non-negotiables" for this upcoming school year is to have all students keep a mathematics journal in class. In previous years, I frequently had students writing about their experiences, struggles, or content on notebook paper and turning it in but they did not keep a journal. I hopped right on board, though there was some resistance from the faculty. FutureOfMath brings you 59 Writing Prompts for Math Teachers.

The Easter Egg | Questions?

https://coxmathblog.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/the-easter-egg

Trying to make it matter. Personal Responsibility vs. Learning? January 20, 2010. Gotta thank Kate for introducing me to the Row Game. I also like the idea of using box.net as a way for teachers to upload and share. So I introduced the “Easter Egg.” I have used this concept in the past when doing test review. Basically, I hide wrong answers so students need are a little more alert when looking at the solution to a problem. How does this work for row games? Today I rolled out this row game. Looks like a g...

MRS.TAGS WRITES – These are my stories.

These are my stories. Thought of the Day. Why do I (still) write? January 10, 2017. January 10, 2017.
