Effervescent Ripples
http://livemusicvisuals.com/ripples.html
OSU percussion ensemble performance of Aurel Hollo's beFORe JOHN3. This project was a natural extension of the work created from Arctic Fracture. It was a real-time visualization that reacted to the performance of "39-the dream of the Manichaeian/before JOHN" by Aurel Hollo. The raindrops were inspired by the shape of sound marimbas make. Effervescent Ripples was the first visualization to feature different scenes or sections that corresponded with the musical sections. Interested in working together?

A realtime visualization of Strindberg's Origins/Glades at Drums Downtown V. This is the first real-time visualization system created. It was designed to visualize six percussionists performing. This video demonstrates the visualization system reacting to a piano piece. Various frequencies are visualized by different elements so lower piano notes will cause different elements to react when compared to higher piano notes. Drums Downtown V, Columbus, OH, February 2008. PASIC 2008, Austin, TX, October 2008.

Swirling blue lights reacting to mallet attacks throughout the piece. The swirling shapes continue to evolve as the musical complexity increases. Blue crescents form as softer rays of light shine from above. Each element uniquely reacts to the various attack strengths of the percussion instruments. Interested in working together?

Carpe Diem

The first performance-based animation with the Pendulum Duo at Drums Downtown IV. Drums Downtown IV, Columbus, OH, February 2007. The helix particle trails provided a good illustration of the two percussionists. Pentagon shape animations represented higher-pitched percussive hits. Cymbal hits were represented by a particle shockwave which proved to be very symbolic and appropriate for the sound and physical shape of a cymbal. Interested in working together?

Gridlights
http://livemusicvisuals.com/gridlights.html
An abstract exploration inspired by airport runway lights. Gridlights was an exploration in more abstract shapes and some of the inspiration came from airport runway lights. A unique trait in this visualization is a system that shifts and generates new runway lights based on overall motion of the visuals. This allows for us to traverse a never ending grid of lights. This visualization system was used during the Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong Jazz Camp. Skylab/Ignition 3.0, Columbus, OH, May 2010.

Iron Man UI
http://livemusicvisuals.com/ironman.html
An Iron Man heads up display (HUD) inspired visualization. This visualization was inspired by the Iron Man heads up display (HUD) and UI designs from the three movies. The goal was to build similar design elements and see how they would react to live audio. Some new features of this visualization system include an 8 channel, 64 band equalizer and procedural asset generators. Earlier work in progress version. Interested in working together?
