Musing About Relationships

Saturday, May 9, 2015. Several years ago my oldest accused me of being sentimental because I reflected on special times in her childhood and in our relationship. She accused in a scathing, angry voice. So what? It may be that she is NOT sentimental. But I am in my own way. I care that children be treated well, that children do well, that they be prepared for the ups and downs of adulthood. I care that pets are treated well, that mothers are honored, and that families enjoy one another. What do you think?

Musing About Relationships: January 2014

http://musingaboutrelationships.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 26, 2014. Dean Koontz's character, Odd Thomas, has been a stick that causes brain stirring for me. Because I have been living with a broken relationship for a year an a half I have had to review my actions, my behavior, and my attitudes with relentless honesty. I cannot find anything that makes me an exceptionally bad person. Dean Koontz, “Odd Interlude”, p. 188 (paper). What do you think about self reproach? Leave a comment and let us know. Thursday, January 16, 2014. The lizard brain mi...

Musing About Relationships: Useful? Heroic?

http://musingaboutrelationships.blogspot.com/2015/01/useful-heroic.html

Friday, January 23, 2015. I heard a Ricky Skaggs - Sharon White song about, "If I needed you would you come to me? One phrase, "I would come to you. I would swim the sea" made me think. Most people I need don't need to swim the ocean. I need to have them listen and hear me. I need people to find out what I need, and provide that, rather than what they think. I need, or they want me to need. I need people to value me even whey they disagree with me. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Other Links and Blogs.

Musing About Relationships: October 2013

http://musingaboutrelationships.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 24, 2013. When they were young I built my daughters a "climbing toy". It went up about four feet, and had "rungs" they could climb up. As they began to climb they found it pretty easy to get to the top. They they wanted me to help them down. At such a time a person needs to come down off her high horse, find a safe and graceful way to say, "I was wrong" or "I'm sorry.". If a person cannot learn to climb off her high horse comfortably enduring relationships will be hard to come by. I...

Musing About Relationships: Freedom brings Problems

http://musingaboutrelationships.blogspot.com/2015/02/freedom-brings-problems.html

Monday, February 23, 2015. I have a friend who has been angry for the 46 or 47 years I have known him. The world does not run (according to him) the way it should and he is pissed! Still, after all these years. He recently built an elaborate tree house, and I got to thinking about it. What if every nail, every bolt, every stick of wood, every piece of metal, every item of roofing material had a mind of it's own. Some might want to be part of the treehouse. Some might want to be part of a boat. How do you...

Thinking With Al: November 2014

http://thinkingwithal.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Thinking about thinking. Thinking about issues. Thinking about possibilities. Thinking about what others are thinking. Friday, November 28, 2014. More on Getting Buy In. Think with me for a moment about business practices and labor practices. Implied, and even stated, are certain contractual exzpectations. A business will not cheat, will not lie, and will deliver what it promises on time and for the price set. A laborer or labor union will do the job competently, on time, and for the wages agreed to.

Thinking With Al: A Book or Two Worth Your Time - 2

http://thinkingwithal.blogspot.com/2015/02/a-book-or-two-worth-your-time-2.html

Thinking about thinking. Thinking about issues. Thinking about possibilities. Thinking about what others are thinking. Friday, February 27, 2015. A Book or Two Worth Your Time - 2. Jonas Jonasson grabbed me with the book "The 100-year Old Man Who Climbed Out A Window and Disappeared." Never slow, never fast, but alway with an undercurrent of gut-busting humor, Jonasson wrote a story and both captivates and demands putting it down. Why put it down? What do you think? Thinking about thinking. Thinking about issues. Thinking about possibilities. Thinking about what others are thinking. Monday, October 27, 2014. The New Dark Ages. Are we entering, or have we entered, the New Dark Ages? What might happen if our first. Response to tough issues was, "How can we work this out? Oh, that sounds like a liberal thought. How unpatriotic, or unChristian, or anti-Muslim or whatever! Think with me on this topic, and think about these questions for yourself. Links to this post.

Thinking With Al: December 2014

Thinking about thinking. Thinking about issues. Thinking about possibilities. Thinking about what others are thinking. Sunday, December 21, 2014. Still More on Getting Buy In. How do adults who have bought into the "social contract" that keeps our world going in a relatively peaceful, productive way, engage people in their teens and help them "buy in" to, and agree to, the social contract? Many teenagers don't think their world is. What do you think? Leave your comment and let us know. Links to this post.

http://thinkingwithal.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Thinking about thinking. Thinking about issues. Thinking about possibilities. Thinking about what others are thinking. Saturday, January 17, 2015. I am writing on January 7, 2015. A French satirical magazine has been terrorized by gunmen, twelve are dead, and the news commentators are using the phrase “increased radicalization” about militant Muslims in France. Radical. Stupid. Hate-filled. And we ask, "Why doesn't God strike these people dead? What do you think? Leave a comment and let us know. Al Lusti...

Thinking about thinking. Thinking about issues. Thinking about possibilities. Thinking about what others are thinking. Monday, February 23, 2015. I hear and read the phrase, "meant to be". f or instance:. 8220;Our love was meant to be.". 8220;God spared me from the disaster in which 82 other people died. It was meant to be. Thinking With Al: Ambiguity

http://thinkingwithal.blogspot.com/2015/02/ambiguity.html

Thinking about thinking. Thinking about issues. Thinking about possibilities. Thinking about what others are thinking. Monday, February 23, 2015. I find an ambiguity in the words that are put into my mouth in songs, liturgies, patriotic expressions, enlistment oaths and life affirmations. You know what I am talking about, probably. I did that when I joined a fraternity. A year and a half later I realized that I was never, never going to even want to admit I was a member of that organization. I tr...We wa...

Thinking about thinking. Thinking about issues. Thinking about possibilities. Thinking about what others are thinking. Friday, April 25, 2014. My friend is thinking about blogging. I am not sure why, exactly. But it has me thinking. What might the value of blogging be? I have four blogs going on a now and then basis. If you check the links on this page you can send your browser to any of them. I invite you to do so. But. . . what do I get out of blogging? What would my friend get out of blogging? Al Lust...

Thinking With Al: July 2015

http://thinkingwithal.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Thinking about thinking. Thinking about issues. Thinking about possibilities. Thinking about what others are thinking. Monday, July 27, 2015. I apologize for being absent for so long. My torn rotator cuff made sitting at a keyboard very painful, and even using a mouse required my left hand. Physical therapy is making a difference in a positive way. I don't want to go backwards. . . There is an attraction to "the old days" when you live in homes with indoor plumbing, hot showers, and Internet access. ...

Reviews, discussions and random thoughts about music. September 23, 2013. Every year, this time of year (not surprisingly), I find two songs racing through my mind: Hayden’s “In September” and Big Star’s “September Gurls.”. The songs couldn’t be more different, though they’re both incredibly melodic in their own ways. 8220;September Gurls,” is often held up as the epitome of shimmering power pop, perhaps the standout song on Big Star’s 2nd album, “Radio City,” released in 1974. Musings a la Johnny G

Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Have you walked outside in the morning to see that it rained the night before. Not the pounding rain and crashing thunder kind, but a soft rain, a little more than the dew. There is a hint of a chill in the air, the bluebonnets poking their heads out, a sense of hope in the midst of brown grass and a dusty driveway. There are times when walking in the Spirit that you are blessed with clarity, if even for a moment. I am not a tree, or a rock, or a flower, I am His child. The m...
