Musings from the West Coast. Asymp; 1 Comment. Call me a traditionalist, but I completely enjoy the human element that the men in black add to the game, even to the extent where mistakes are made. It essentially makes the endeavor what it is. Meanwhile, watched carefully from yet another camera, a runner at first base attempts to steal second, and the result of that action is also announced from the GU. No question. But in a game among fallible humans? Hardly. The fact is, humans making and enforcing...

Musings from the West Coast. In the parking lot. Asymp; 1 Comment. Before I moved to Orange County four years ago, I really had no idea that there was so much money floating around here, except perhaps in my neighborhood. I mean our little hacienda is sweet and comfortable, but it hardly suggests that we’re part of the one percent. Or roughly the cost for a fleet of Honda Accords. Ten of America’s favorite car. One for every garage on our side of the street. Just how many traffic citations can you bear?

Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Why in God's name doesn't the NFL have sense enough to rid itself the embarrassment of the Pro Bowl? I mean, come on folks! Hell, if I lived next door to the stadium and had a free pass, it still wouldn't be worth the walk. For this day, they should trade their pads for ballet slippers and matching t...

Wednesday, March 07, 2018. PTSD, Panic and Prayer. The lights feel brighter and the sounds feel louder and the minor annoyances loom large in my mind. And my heart clenches and I can't breathe and my grasp on the present moment slips. I feel. I am thankful that this is not my constant present reality but in the last week or so my PTSD and grief have caught up with me. My brain, heart, mind, body and spirit have been on overload. I miss hearing her strumming her guitar. Miss seeing her nose scrunch up.

Monday, April 30, 2012. Jesus says in Luke 9:23,. 8220;Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. These words are so pointed, so direct, and so real, but hard to put into context for me. What does it mean to deny yourself? What must you change in your life for this self-denial to take place? Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Worship: Preparing Your Heart. In my previous post, Worship: From the Inside Out. Location: County Road 2530 E, Farina, IL 62838, USA.

MORE MUSINGS FROM JOAN. Age Is Just A Number! Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Remembering Elvis. . . This was long before his halcyon days, however. He was just out of college, we were married only a few years and I was home in Mt. Vernon with our new little baby, Andrea. He returned from the trip and was telling me over dinner about this remarkable local concert he had attended. The young guy who was singing was playing the guitar and shaking his hips like crazy. Reflections of various topics by Ken McLeod, Buddhist teacher, executive coach, and management consultant. Saturday, January 21, 2017. Post-election: a crooked tree in changing times. Before the election, I posted a short piece about a Buddhist response to Trump. I described how to be present with difficulty feelings, without trying to change or control what we experience, and how that opened up the possibility of finding peace and clarity in the midst of our reactivity and confusion. Even wise leaders m...

Sunday, August 9, 2009. There's always gonna be another mountain. We're always gonna wanna make it move. Always gonna be an uphill battle. Sometimes we're gonna have to lose. Ain't about how fast we get there. Ain't about what's waiting on the other side. Saturday, July 25, 2009. In this time of fear. When prayers so often proves in vain. Hope seems like the summer birds. Too swiftly flown away. Yet now I'm standing here. My heart's so full I can't explain. Seeking faith and speaking words. The past one ...
