January 2015 - Musings of a Code Slinger

http://musingsofacodeslinger.com/2015/01

Musings of a Code Slinger. Thoughts from the cubical farm. Archives for January 2015. Patterns in Practice – Just Because You Can…. There’s a pattern that everyone goes through the moment they purchase a new tool at the hardware store. Even before you have left the store, you are thinking about all the things you can do with your new tool. For a period of time, the thought that this new tool might not be the most appropriate for any particular task doesn’t enter your mind. Programmers are no different.

Hiding for No Reason - Musings of a Code Slinger

http://musingsofacodeslinger.com/2014/12/15/hiding-no-reason

Musings of a Code Slinger. Thoughts from the cubical farm. Hiding for No Reason. There are many valid reasons you might want to hide. You are playing a game of hide-and-seek, you are being stalked by a serial killer, you just broke your spouse’s favorite vase, or maybe you testified in court against the local mafia boss. Like I said, there are many valid reasons to hide. On the flip side, there are many reasons, or rather excuses, which are pointless. An interface can be used to separate layers of functi...

April 2015 - Musings of a Code Slinger

Musings of a Code Slinger. Thoughts from the cubical farm. Archives for April 2015. Understanding the Client’s Domain – The Need For Domain Knowledge. I recently was working on a project where one of the programmers involved didn’t seem to have the slightest understanding of the client, or what they did, in the slightest. Big deal, it’s only a programmer. All he has to do is write the code that he’s told to write. Ah, but it’s not so simple as that. Way back, about a century or so ago. A blog on travel, ...

Intentionally Creating Bugs - Musings of a Code Slinger

http://musingsofacodeslinger.com/2015/03/23/intentionally-creating-bugs

Musings of a Code Slinger. Thoughts from the cubical farm. Recently, I was trying to clean up a project when I came across some code that confused me. It intentionally took the application to the wrong starting place. I removed the offending code, allowing the application to once again revert to its desired and designed behavior. But a couple of days later, the wrong behavior was back. Hmm, it seems someone is making the application open in the wrong place. I wonder why…. How would it do this? I get paid...

Even the earliest projects that I was involved in, as an entry-level programmer.

Musings of a Clothaholic

Jan 12, 2012. Potentially my last year of CD'ing. It dawned on me last night that 2012 could potentially be my last year using cloth diapers, and that makes me a little sad! Gaby was toilet trained by the time she was 2 1/2, and if that is the same for Emersyn, that would mean she'll be out of cloth by the end of the year. Well - minus the one night time diaper. The thought of going from numerous diapers a day to SEVEN a week makes me sad. Look at lots of babies showing off their cloth butts! Nov 28, 2011.

Musings of a Coffee Guy. June 3, 2015. June 3, 2015. Since 2 years much has happened in that part of the country but one thing I sorely miss is the beauty and heart warming Kashmiris in the cities of Srinagar, Sonmarg, Gulmarg and Pahalgam. Though it was a week long trip, I didn’t have much time to capture the full beauty of Kashmir. Here are the snippets from my tour of May-June 2013. You can also relive those pictures on Flickr. Musings of a College Girl

Musings of a College Girl. Sunday, January 23, 2011. I've found perhaps the most important universal truth. Universal Truth Number Forty-Two. Joy comes through understanding. As you learn and then apply what you've learned to future endeavors, it makes you happier because it yields better outcomes. I've been able to apply a lot, and will continue to look for life lessons to learn and apply. With that, a promise I'll continue to observe life's lessons and muse on them, I leave you to your own devices.
