My Cattle World: Texas-isms

http://mycattleworld.blogspot.com/2012/05/texas-isms.html

Thursday, May 3, 2012. Texas, our Texas, All hail the mighty State. Texas, our Texas. So wonderful, so great! Bluebonnets. I think they're weeds, but I would never tell. A Texan that. Liable to get hanged, them's fightin' words. Restroom: If you are a Canadian, never use the word "Washroom". You will promptly be given a quizzical look and directed to the nearest Laundro-mat. It's a restroom, though I haven't the slightest idea as to why- I have never used it to rest. Ever. This one will get you every tim...

My Cattle World: April 2012

http://mycattleworld.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 29, 2012. I Wanna Go Home. Beautiful prairie near Indus, Alberta. Home. I wanna go home, I wanna go home, Ohhh how I want to go home."- Bobby Bear. The Tex-Mex will be sorely missed. Oddly, I miss seeing our nice red CP and CN locomotives. I will miss the Lone Star State- Especially the accents. I can't see Texas from here, I can't see Texas from here, no matter how I try-y-y it makes me want to die-y-y, so if you see me looking down I'm tryin' not to show this frown." -George Strait.

My Cattle World: October 2011

http://mycattleworld.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 31, 2011. So God Made a Farmer. And on the 8th day God looked down on his planned paradise and said, "I need a caretaker." So God made a farmer. God said, "I need somebody to get up before dawn and milk cows and work all day in the fields, milk cows again, eat supper and then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the school board." So God made a farmer. God had to have somebody willing to ride the ruts at double speed to get the hay in ahead of the rain clouds and yet stop on ...

Life in the Ag Industry: Breeding Season!

http://rancherruth.blogspot.com/2011/05/breeding-season.html

Life in the Ag Industry. Thursday, 26 May 2011. Well, it's official the last 23 cows of our 234 AI (artificial insemination) cows went out to the bull yesterday! After we AI our cows we wait three weeks before sending them out to the bull so that way when they calf next year we know if the calf is sired by the AI bull or the natural bull! Now the 2011 breeding season is in full swing with 409 purebred cows with 11 Hereford bulls. Along with about 165 heifers with 4 bulls. LBH 157K RIBSTONE 40W. If you ha...

Life in the Ag Industry: September 2011

http://rancherruth.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Life in the Ag Industry. Saturday, 3 September 2011. It's been a while since I've blogged, life's been busy and the days are very quickly disappearing until I have to go back to school and this thought does not excite me all that much. A few weeks ago now we performed one of my favorite jobs to do on the ranch which included preg testing our cows and heifers! We spent the better part of four days checking if our 612 females are going to have a baby next year, with 450 being cows and 162 heifers. What I L...

http://rancherruth.blogspot.com/2011/08/boy-from-girl.html

Life in the Ag Industry. Wednesday, 17 August 2011. Our sorting of boy from girl lets us kill two birds with one stone when we pick calves for the field days and it is a precautionary measure to prevent stuff we don't want to happen! 23 August 2011 at 07:32. I am enjoying reading your blog Ruth - I think it is amazing that you all are able to make it to those field days with calves - I was tired out from the trip to Hardisty and I didnt even take cattle! Congratulations on doing so well in Cutknife!

Life in the Ag Industry: June 2011

http://rancherruth.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Life in the Ag Industry. Wednesday, 29 June 2011. Gophers dig holes - They dig them everywhere, making mounds of dirt and tearing up grass. This is an issue in the well being of our cattle, they can hurt themselves if they walk in a gopher hole. It becomes more of an issue during breeding season when they ride each other, it's easier to hurt themselves if they step in a hole while riding. That is a lot! Tuesday, 28 June 2011. Salt (red) and seven way. These supplements are very important to a cows diet, ...

Life in the Ag Industry: August 2011

http://rancherruth.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Life in the Ag Industry. Friday, 26 August 2011. After the Hardisty field day which was another wonderful and good day we came home and plowed full swing into silaging! We silaged for four days and covered the pit on Wednesday morning. It makes for a busy few days from about eight in the morning to ten or eleven at night and is a very important time as silage is what we feed in the winter months to our cattle and are their main food. 1 person swathing a bit ahead of the chopper. How to Train a Cat | Stop spraying, scratching and more!

How to Train a Cat. Just like other pets, cats are also capable to learn things beyond sleeping, eating and eliminating wastes. Many cat owners have been able to successfully train their felines to do tricks while others were able to contain the animal’s playful, rough and aggressive habits. How to choose the best method to train a cat. First, a lot of patience is needed since cat training is usually accomplished over a longer period, and the possibility of experiencing setbacks is quite high. Third, the...
