The jelly baskets I gave out for Christmas has had people calling me the last couple days raving about how great it is and how wonderful the taste is. I need to remember that next year when I'm dragging butt and wondering what the point to all this is :) It's nice to be told that something you made is wonderful!

He grumbled about not being an idiot, but he also shared about needing to pee one day after eating hot peppers with his lunch. Evidently things got a little warm :D Sorry, I know that's more info than needed, but I have to grin every time I get the visual so I had to share. Feeling successful he also decided to pickle some eggs.

I don't like them (shudder) much at all but she wanted some to enjoy this winter in Arizona so we cold packed them into a hot medium syrup. Unfortunately (again) we picked a few too many. Fast My fruit didn't have enough time to soak. I don't know if it's still good or not but I am going to toss it. These 6 jars just keep getting browner and browner. At a local store they were offering whole young chickens for 67 cents a pound limit 3. The kids keep asking if this is my chickens. No. It's Foster farms chickens :) I guess that makes it ok to eat. I put about 1 to 2 cups of chicken in each quart jar and added the stock, capped, and put into the pressure canner. That's less than .75 cents per quart. N...IR...

My not so empty nest days. On September 23, 2010. My hand feels violated. I have an icky taste in the back of my throat. I'm soo nauseous. I can't believe I did that. I had 4 10 pound babies natural because I hate needles. I see the dentist about once a decade because I hate needles. I have walked out on more than one dr's office because I hate needles. My baby is going to be ok :) They said the tumor is non-malignant and will probably grow some more and she has to go back in 4-6 months for another ultrasound but it's NOT CANCER! I cried. Every year since we've met he heads up to the mountain for bow season hunting elk. YIPPEE! I hope we fill the freezer. My son will head up on Monday to join him.I'm hoping for 2 animals. She got me respite. 2 hours later I had respite for everybody. 4 and 1/2 hours after that everybody was delivered. Thank you for all those positive thoughts. We had 3 days of sun and I finally got my first picking of green beans! I really thought the plants would die before producing. 6 qts and 5 pints. It's a start. I can't wait until some wonderful person invents a pressure canner that works as fast as a microwave. August 14, 2010. Learning new ways to cook as I grow (up.not old). I think you have to be in a creative mood to create a meal. I barely have enough energy to open the boxes. I see glimpses of sun every so often and I'm hoping for renewed energy soon. Me trying with eggs. With time on my hands and a shoebox full of eggs I tried something new. It's very easy, even for me :). Butter 6 slices of bread and cut into squares. Layer one half into a buttered casserole dish. Bake at 350 for 1 hour and about 20 minutes. I liked...

Old enough to make mudpies by myself. Wearing funny hats and ugly clothes. July 29, 2010. Since I broke my big toe 3 weeks ago, this is my first trip to the garden since things started growing. Heavy dew and mist each morning and 70's each afternoon. It should be growing a bit faster, but at least it's growing. Waiting on blackberries, next week we'll be canning syrup and jelly. Pumpkins are doing really well for now but I've yet to have a carvable pumpkin. My corn is once again doing crap. May 31, 2010.
