fikon & fig: on this day last year
http://fikonandfig.blogspot.com/2010/03/on-this-day-last-year.html
Wednesday, March 17, 2010. On this day last year. On this exact day last year, I mailed in my Visa application to live and work in Sweden. When I arrived to Sweden back in December 2008, I had ignorantly not cared about what paperwork I would actually need to apply for in order to live and work in Sweden. I guess in my naïve head I was so excited about being back with Gillis that I figured “surely Sweden isn’t so strict about who stays in their country.” Well, I was wrong. I am a Texan living in Sweden&#...

fikon & fig: easter
http://fikonandfig.blogspot.com/2010/04/easter.html
Wednesday, April 7, 2010. I loved Easter in Sweden because of all of the YELLOW! Yellow daffodils, table clothes, candles, little yellow chickens. Yellow is such a cheerful color. I am not sure if it is a big difference but I think Americans use more white and p. Astels in their Easter decorating. We also use Easter lilies more so than daffodils. But maybe I am generalizing here, regardless, the difference in color and flowers. Was interesting to me. At dinner with singing, snaps, singing, snaps, and whe...

fikon & fig: update!
http://fikonandfig.blogspot.com/2010/04/update.html
Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Aj, I haven’t really written too much here lately. Sorry. But I now know of at least 10 (or less, but I dream big! Readers. Hey Mom! So I guess I have some writing to do. This past Saturday, we took the train up to my in-law’s place. My father-in-law picked us up from the station and said “Did you get my comment on your blog? 8221; And I was a bit taken aback…. Wait, my father-in-law READS MY BLOG? This measly, little, scrappy blog? He doesn’t even have Facebook! This is my last m...

fikon & fig: February 2010
http://fikonandfig.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 28, 2010. The first pre spring day. This morning, after introducing my in-laws to the beauty of the breakfast burrito, we all played Trim-Bingo. Which is a bingo but on a long walk. You cross off the numbers you have at each marked post. This picture doesn't depict it but spring is coming! Part of today was 6 Celsius and sunny! Saturday, February 27, 2010. We took an afternoon sauna. It was incredibly relaxing. Instead of jumping in the frozen lake we stood in snow to cool off. One of my...

fikon & fig: January 2010
http://fikonandfig.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 29, 2010. Retreat to the countryside and photos of last spring. Yesterday, we went to Gillis parent's house in the country side. A perfect retreat from the “city life.” We are here the whole weekend and it is always good. Good food, wine, company, and scenery. No matter what season, the southern countryside in Sweden is gorgeous. Although, now after experiencing all four seasons my favorite is the in-between of spring and summer. Thursday, January 28, 2010. I left work a bit early because...

fikon & fig: food in sweden, and i am the weirdo!
http://fikonandfig.blogspot.com/2010/03/posted-using-blogpress-from-my-iphone_27.html
Saturday, March 27, 2010. Food in sweden, and i am the weirdo! Thursday was Waffle Day. One of the reasons I love Sweden is that there are a lot of fun food days. Semla Day, Lucia Day, Cinnamon Bun Day. And there are food months: like in August you have a crayfish party and in November you have a goose dinner. The day after Christmas you eat lutefisk. We had waffles and fried eggs. This completely astounded my husband that we would eat FRIED EGGS with WAFFLES. It's like breakfast for dinner," was my reply.
