VFX Rants: Nuke - smart cloning with time offset
http://vfx-rants.blogspot.com/2014/09/nuke-smart-cloning-with-time-offset.html
Tuesday, September 16, 2014. Nuke - smart cloning with time offset. Just a little snippet I'm using right now. If you need to clone from a certain area in plate but don't want to stabilize it and use a tracker as clone transform base instead, changing time offset of clone source shifts the area you are cloning from. To keep the same relative clone source area while changing time offset, use this expression in clone shape or stroke source transform:. Posted by Hendrik Proosa. View my complete profile.

VFX Rants: August 2013
http://vfx-rants.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Programming continued. vol 4. Have to start working now, so maybe last update in some time. Ops with geometry operations. Viewer Op options for style overrides, also enables sorting of viewed table. In addition to ops with tables, new ops that create or modify geometry are now in place. Started coding a simple library of geometric primitives also, so that generic functions could be used on all of them for inserting vertices etc. Ahaa, almost forgot! Posted by Hendrik Proosa.

VFX Rants: Nuke get(channels=0xf) but request(channels=0x7) error
http://vfx-rants.blogspot.com/2014/07/nuke-getchannels0xf-but.html
Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Nuke get(channels=0xf) but request(channels=0x7) error. I'm doing some paint fix work and Nuke is getting pretty annoying with its get(channels=0xf) but request(channels=0x7). Error It randomly throws it on different nodes and while in viewer everything renders correctly, Write nodes crash with an error. At first I searched the forums and Nuke release notes but found nothing very useful except the discussion about motion vector channels in The Foundry Nuke user forum. Convert ch...

VFX Rants: June 2013
http://vfx-rants.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 7, 2013. FxPHD April term courses are running nicely. I tested some different approaches in keying scanned film footage from NUK222 class and got pretty decent results. Main problems were edge boiling due to film grain and restoring hair detail but with some fiddling I got an ok result for hair and pretty nice edge for dark jacket. This is the original and my result on neutral background (click for pixel-per-pixel zoom):. Posted by Hendrik Proosa. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

VFX Rants: May 2013

Thursday, May 9, 2013. Running .bat and python scripts from Backburner. Some notes about running scripts through Backburner. Why do that? To make some crude automation with files or databases - for example run render first, then check if output is ok, then generate preview movie clip, then upload relevant info to database (Shotgun for example). VFX Rants: Nuke 9 is pretty impressive!
http://vfx-rants.blogspot.com/2014/09/nuke-9-is-pretty-impressive.html
Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Nuke 9 is pretty impressive! I'm doing some projection based cleanup work and crunching through 4K exr plates is pretty slow with Nuke 8. Opened the same comp in Nuke 9 beta and voila, whole thing just flies! Not sure if it is the multi-threaded exr reading or improvements to scanlinerender but speed difference is definitely multiple times. Great work Foundry team! Posted by Hendrik Proosa.
