Where the eclectic meets the electric. Laquo; Wondering Where Your Robins Are? Breakfast of the Cormorants. April 22, 2015 by OmbudsBen. Shortly after dawn this morning I was walking Edie along the shoreline of the old naval air station, when I noticed a large, circling flock of dark birds overhead. I’d seen them working in unison in the past, so I stopped to watch. While they splashed down over a wide area, they quickly congregated and began swimming toward shore, necks up in a gentle. I tried to imagin...

Where the eclectic meets the electric. Laquo; Life, Itself. Freezers and Thawing Out. January 6, 2015 by OmbudsBen. We have two freezers: the bottom compartment of our kitchen refrigerator, and the larger one in our downstairs garage’s side-by-side fridge. Containers abide in them so long we might well be preserving mammoth meat. It feels like my life is thawing out to some degree, as well. For so long I’ve just shoved things in boxes, waiting for the day. Well the day has come. I ransacked t...It’s taki...

Where the eclectic meets the electric. Laquo; Freezers and Thawing Out. Wondering Where Your Robins Are? January 16, 2015 by OmbudsBen. Time has morphed since I left the court. Perhaps metamorphosed? Or as Calvin (of Hobbes) had it:. When I was still working, there was a need to get done. Plus last weekend the missus was going to see. A Prairie Home Companion. But with the time I have now, I told her I would go. And it was fun. Shot the whole afternoon and evening, but so what? I hated spending time in t...

Where the eclectic meets the electric. Laquo; Breakfast of the Cormorants. Ernie, in early November. July 2, 2015 by OmbudsBen. I took a year off from college once and traveled around the country. For a while, I stayed out on the farm where my grandmother had been born, living with my great-aunt. I was helping my grandfather paint houses. I came home one day to find that my great-aunt had darned a couple pairs of my socks. On July 5, 2015 at 8:40 pm. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Where the eclectic meets the electric. Laquo; Changing Time. Breakfast of the Cormorants. Wondering Where Your Robins Are? January 28, 2015 by OmbudsBen. It began when the missus and I went up to Mendocino for Thanksgiving. Our friends were staying in Little River, on the coast, and as we drove to the house they were renting we drove through a meadow full of robins. Doubtless in some lawn, field, or meadow north of here; perhaps where you are? I hope warming a nest of blue robin’s eggs. On The War of Wil...

Falling In Love With Romance: So What Do You Do For A Living, Big Boy?
http://suziequint.blogspot.com/2011/01/so-what-do-you-do-for-living-big-boy.html
Falling In Love With Romance. Suzie Quint's blog about, life, love, and writing romance. So What Do You Do For A Living, Big Boy? The hero is a demolition expert. How cool is that? There's something about a man who can handle dynamite and blow things up that's just so macho. So- dare I say it? This is the first time I've seen a fictional character with that job. Mostly, I see the same jobs, the same careers recycled over and over again. Why do you suppose that is? A couple of possibilities occur to me.

Adventures in Writing: Sucking Face Killed the Stilted Puppies
http://adventures-in-creative-writing.blogspot.com/2011/02/sucking-face-killed-stilted-puppies.html
Wednesday, February 9, 2011. Sucking Face Killed the Stilted Puppies. Been working on a Secret Squirrel Contemporary YA novel for some time now, and today, I am puppy killer. The main character in the novel is recovering from [redacted]. I researched recovery and the support one receives when Something Bad Happens. I sure can’t. I get all gooey when my adult Boston looks at me, imagine TWO puppies and a teen girl. How can I have stilted puppies? What was my main character trying to tell me? That’s ...
